Journal ArticleDOI
Association Between Use of Different Antibiotics and Trimethoprim Resistance: Going Beyond the Obvious Crude Association
Koen B. Pouwels,Koen B. Pouwels,Koen B. Pouwels,Rachel Freeman,Berit Muller-Pebody,Graeme Rooney,Katherine L. Henderson,Julie V. Robotham,Timo Smieszek,Timo Smieszek +9 more
TL;DR: Use of amoxicillin/ampicillin explained more of the variance in trimethoprim resistance than trimETHoprim use, suggesting that co-selection by these antibiotics is an important driver of trimethobacteriaceae resistance levels at the population level.
Journal ArticleDOI
Promotion of rapid testing for HIV in primary care (RHIVA2): a cluster-randomised controlled trial.
Werner Leber,Heather McMullen,Jane Anderson,Nadine Marlin,Andreia Santos,Stephen Bremner,Kambiz Boomla,Sally Kerry,D Millett,Sifiso Mguni,S Creighton,Jose Figueroa,Richard Ashcroft,Graham Hart,Valerie Delpech,Alison E Brown,Graeme Rooney,Maria Sampson,Adrian R. Martineau,Fern Terris-Prestholt,Chris Griffiths +20 more
TL;DR: Promotion of opt-out rapid testing in general practice led to increased rate of diagnosis, and might increase early detection, of HIV, and it is recommended implementation of HIV screening in general practices in areas with high HIV prevalence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improving feedback of surveillance data on antimicrobial consumption, resistance and stewardship in England: putting the data at your Fingertips.
Alan P. Johnson,Berit Muller-Pebody,Emma L. Budd,Diane Ashiru-Oredope,David Ladenheim,Doris Hain,Russell Hope,Alex Bhattacharya,Suzanne Elgohari,Rebecca Guy,Katherine L. Henderson,Richard Puleston,Graeme Rooney,Simon Thelwall,Edgar Wellington,Theresa Lamagni,Susan Hopkins +16 more
TL;DR: The aim of the AMR local indicators profile on Fingertips is to support the development of local action plans to optimize antibiotic prescribing and reduce AMR and healthcare-associated infections.
Journal ArticleDOI
What is the overlap between HIV and shigellosis epidemics in England: further evidence of MSM transmission?
Keerthi Mohan,Matthew Peter Hibbert,Graeme Rooney,Malcolm Canvin,Tristan Childs,Claire Jenkins,Ian Simms,Peter Kirwan,Valerie Delpech,Z Yin,Gwenda Hughes,Nigel Field,Nigel Field +12 more
TL;DR: The role of HIV in the Shigella epidemic is not well understood as mentioned in this paper, and sexual history, HIV status and STI risk might require sensitive investigation in men presenting with gastroenteritis.
