Mutations in Complement Factor I Predispose to Development of Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome
David J. Kavanagh,Elizabeth J. Kemp,Elizabeth Mayland,Robin J. Winney,Jeremy S. Duffield,Graham Warwick,Anna Richards,Roy Ward,Judith A. Goodship,Timothy H.J. Goodship +9 more
TL;DR: This study looked for IF mutations in a panel of 76 patients with HUS, finding two patients, both of whom had reduced serum IF levels and had a history of recurrent HUS after transplantation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Outcome of renal replacement therapy in the very elderly
Sunil Kumar Munshi,Narayanaswamy Vijayakumar,Nick Taub,Harneeta Bhullar,T. C. N. Lo,Graham Warwick +5 more
TL;DR: Very elderly ESRD patients on RRT have a very poor outcome and, since they are the largest growing group of RRT patients, this has important implications for future health policies.
Journal ArticleDOI
The second United Kingdom Heart and Renal Protection (UK-HARP-II) Study: a randomized controlled study of the biochemical safety and efficacy of adding ezetimibe to simvastatin as initial therapy among patients with CKD.
Martin J Landray,Colin Baigent,Craig Leaper,Dwomoa Adu,Paul Altmann,Jane Armitage,Simon Ball,Alex Baxter,Lisa Blackwell,Hugh Cairns,Sue Carr,Rory Collins,Karen Kourellias,Mary Rogerson,John E. Scoble,Charles R.V. Tomson,Graham Warwick,David C. Wheeler +17 more
TL;DR: This 6-month study shows that the addition of ezetimibe to simvastatin, 20 mg/d, as initial therapy for patients with chronic kidney disease was well tolerated and produced an additional 21% decrease in LDL cholesterol levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Why do patients known to renal services still undergo urgent dialysis initiation? A cross-sectional survey
TL;DR: Early dialysis education and predialysis clinic attendance were associated with greater likelihood of elective dialysis initiation, and services that initiate RRT urgently in a high proportion of patients should consider improving predialesis clinic attendance and early dialysiseducation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Albumin as an outcome measure in haemodialysis in patients: the effect of variation in assay method
TL;DR: Different methods of albumin assay give different results and the bias between methods may be greater in renal failure patients, making comparative audit between nephrology units difficult and have implications for other biochemical variables and other specialties.
