Prediction and manipulation of hydrodynamic rogue waves via nonlinear spectral engineering

TL;DR: In this article, an exact breather solution of the one-dimensional focusing nonlinear Schrodinger equation with nonzero boundary conditions was shown to emerge locally, as an asymptotic structure arising from the propagation of an arbitrary large decaying pulse.

Transformation of envelope solitons on a bottom step

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the transformation of surface envelope solitons traveling over a bottom step in water of a finite depth and derived the parameters of transmitted pulses and subsequent evolution of the pulses in the course of propagation.

Development of a highly nonlinear model for wave propagation over a variable bathymetry

TL;DR: Gouin et al. as discussed by the authors developed a highly nonlinear model for wave propagation over a variable bathymetry with HOS method, and presented a validation case to assess accuracy and efficiency of both approaches which are compared.

From Benjamin-Feir instability to focusing dam breaks in water waves

TL;DR: In this article, the evolution of nonlinear deep-water surface gravity waves with the envelope in the form of a large-scale rectangular barrier is investigated in a long tank, where the authors show that for a range of initial parameters, the nonlinear wave packet is not disintegrated by the Benjamin-Feir instability but exhibits a specific, strongly nonlinear modulation, which propagates from the edges of the wavepacket towards the center with finite speed.
