Journal ArticleDOI
Optical purity of (3S,3'S)-astaxanthin from Haematococcus pluvialis
TL;DR: Haematococcus pluvialis cultivated in a N-deficient medium produced astaxanthin (1 % of total carotenoids), the monoester (76 %) and diester (7 %) of astaxantin, β,β-carotene (1%)), an adonirubin ester (3 %), (3R,3′R,6′R)-lutein (7%), violaxanthins (2%), and neoxanthin(1%) as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Animal carotenoids part 9, on the absolute configuration of astaxanthin and actinioerythrin
Journal ArticleDOI
Lactucaxanthin, an ε,ε-carotene-3,3′-diol from Lactuca sativa
Dorothea Siefermann-Harms,Sissel Hertzberg,Gunner Borch,Synnøve Liaaen-Jensen,Synnøve Liaaen-Jensen +4 more
TL;DR: Chemical and spectroscopic evidence including 1 H NMR and CD is presented, demonstrating the (3 R,6 R ,3′ R ,6′ R )-e,e-carotene-3,3′-diol structure of a new carotenoid, lactucaxanthin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bacterial carotenoids. L. Absolute configuration of zeaxanthin dirhamnoside.
TL;DR: Zeaxanthin dirhamnoside is the major carotenoid of Corynebacterium autotrophicum and the absolute configuration 3R,3′R followed from CD-properties of its hexaacetate, α-L-assignment and 1C4 conformation were concluded from 1H NMR data by comparison with model compounds.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carotenoids of cryptophyceae
TL;DR: The biosynthetic precursor of acetylenic carotenoids in this primitive algal class is discussed, and the significance of Cryptophyceae in the marine food chain is commented on, using alloxanthin as an indicator.
