Nuclear Data Sheets for A = 106

Measurements of E2/M1 and E0/E2 multipole mixing ratios of transitions in even-even nuclei have long provided important tests of nuclear models. The experimental data for transitions in even-even nuclei have been critically surveyed to provide the most accurate results for comparisons with theoretical calculations. The theoretical approaches to the calculations of these mixing ratios on the bases of different nuclear models are considered and compared with experimental data. The variations in signs and magnitudes of the E2/M1 mixing ratios from nucleus to nucleus for the same class transitions and within a given nucleus for transitions from different spin states suggest that a microscopic approach is needed to explain the data theoretically. The pairing-plus quadrupole model has achieved the first successes in predicting these variations, primarily in the osmium to platinum region.

Thermal cycling of thin foil samples is used to measure nuclear spin lattice relaxation of dilute58Co and60Co in iron at polarizing fields up to 1.3 T. The relaxation rates for the two isotopes differ by a factor of 7.1; the good agreement between the high field values for γ2C2, (2.93±0.15)·1015 K·s−1·T−2 (58Co) and (3.01±0.06)·1015K·s−1·T−2 (60Co) verifies the reliability of the experimental method. An enhancement factor model is introduced and shown to give an excellent reproduction of the observed field dependence of the relaxation.

Nuclear spin-lattice relaxation of131I in Fe single crystals

The temperature-dependent anisotropy of γ-rays following the decay of oriented95Tc and105Rh nuclei was studied with a Ge(Li) detector. Mixing coefficients of some γ-and preceding β-transitions, the spins of two intermediate levels, and the magnetic hyperfine splitting of the95Tc and105Rh ground states in an Fe host were measured. From the known hyperfine fields the following magnetic moments were deduced:

Nuclear orientation of105Rh and95Tc in iron

The hyperfine interaction of the system183Re(70d)Fe has been investigated with the NMR/ON technique. With the hyperfine field valueBhf(ReFe)=−76.0(1.5) T the ground state magnetic moment was determined as: μ(5/2+,183Re)=+3.12(6) μN. The field dependent nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time has been measured. The result for the high-field relaxation rateRexp=1.65(5)·10−15T2s K−1 is explained in terms of indirect spin-wave interaction.

The183Re ground state dipole moment and nuclear spin-lattice relaxation of Re in Fe

The anisotropy of γ-rays from the decay of oriented106Rh nuclei was studied at temperatures between 14 and 100 mK. The ground state magnetic moment was determined to be |μ(1+)|=3.07(9) n.m. Incomplete orientation was observed which is assumed to result from relaxation during the 43 s lifetime of the decaying nucleus.
