Melting and annealing of polyethylene single crystals

TL;DR: Melting and annealing of irradiated and unirradiated polyethylene single crystals have been studied with a differential scanning calorimeter as discussed by the authors, showing that the apparent heat of fusion was substantially less than the thermodynamic value for ideal crystals.

The Equilibrium Melting Temperature and Surface Free Energy of Polyethylene Single Crystals

TL;DR: In this paper, the observed melting temperature of solution grown polyethylene crystals (where the crystallization temperature is 77°C or lower) has been found to increase by nearly 10°C as a result of thickening while the crystals were being heated at 10°c/min.
