The Design, Fabrication, and Testing of a Five Megajoule Homopolar Motor-Generator

TL;DR: The current and future generations of controlled thermonuclear fusion experiments require large amounts of pulsed energy for heating and confinement of plasma as discussed by the authors, and Kinetic energy storage with direct conversion to electrical power (i.e., homopolar machines) seems to be the most economically attractive solution for meeting these requirements.

The Testing of Sliding Electrical Contacts for Homopolar Generators

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of varying the apparent area of contact on the coefficient of friction, voltage drop, and wear rate was examined for a high copper grade of commerically available sintered copper graphite material.
