Journal ArticleDOI

InAs quantum dots in a single-crystal GaAs matrix.

TL;DR: InAs microclusters embedded in a single-crystal GaAs matrix by molecular-beam epitaxy are synthesized and it is shown that the optical response of excitons attached to the InAs dots is determined by the zero-dimensional symmetry of the system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Heavy- and light-hole character of optical transitions in InAs/GaAs single-monolayer quantum wells.

TL;DR: The nature of the optical transitions in InAs/GaAs single-monolayer quantum wells grown by molecular-beam epitaxy is examined and information about the band alignment between InAs and GaAs is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI

Role of broken translational invariance for the optical response of excitons in low-dimensional semiconductors

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors manipulated the center-of-mass motion of excitons by introducing fractions of a monolayer of InAs in bulk-like GaAs, which provided direct experimental control of the lateral extent of the InAs insertion and thus of exciton motion.
