Microscopic analysis of failure in woven carbon fabric laminates coupled with digital image correlation and acoustic emission

TL;DR: In this article, a failure analysis of woven fabric carbon-reinforced polymeric composites under tensile and flexural loading was performed. And the authors used the GAP function to find the optimal number of clusters for acoustic emission data, which is suitable for classifying elongated data points in the vector space of acoustic data.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determining tab material for tensile test of CFRP laminates with combined usage of digital image correlation and acoustic emission techniques

TL;DR: In this paper, a tensile test on carbon fiber reinforced laminates with glass and carbon fibre reinforced tab materials was conducted with concurrent monitoring of mechanical behavior of specimens through digital image correlation and acoustic emission techniques, and the experimental tests were numerically simulated through the finite element method in conjunction with a progressive damage analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigation on interlaminar delamination tendency of multidirectional carbon fiber composites

TL;DR: In this paper, multiple strain measurement techniques, namely, resistive strain gauges, embedded optical sensors and digital image correlation are used to analyze stress-strain behavior simultaneously through the thickness of composite materials, and to determine the sequence of failure in different plies.
Journal ArticleDOI

A novel hybrid damage monitoring approach to understand the correlation between size effect and failure behavior of twill CFRP laminates

TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive experimental approach using combined structural health monitoring techniques namely, acoustic emission, digital image correlation and infrared thermography is conducted to elucidate the physics behind size effect in twill woven carbon fiber reinforced polymeric composites.
Journal ArticleDOI

Non-destructive determination of the stiffness matrix of a laminated composite structure with lamb wave

TL;DR: In this article, a combined experimental and numerical study on the determination of the stiffness matrix of transversely isotropic thin laminated composite structures non-destructively with the use of group velocity measurements is presented.
