Journal ArticleDOI

Reduction of water and energy requirement of algae cultivation using an algae biofilm photobioreactor.

TL;DR: The construction and performance of an algae biofilm photobioreactor that offers a significant reduction of the energy and water requirements of cultivation is reported, which reduces the volume of water required to cultivate a kilogram of algal biomass and the dewatering energy requirement.
Journal ArticleDOI

Radiation transfer in photobiological carbon dioxide fixation and fuel production by microalgae

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of both experimental and modeling efforts focusing on radiation transfer in microalgae suspension is presented, and methods for solving the radiation transfer equation in photobioreactors with or without bubbles are also discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Radiation characteristics of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii CC125 and its truncated chlorophyll antenna transformants tla1, tlaX and tla1-CW+

TL;DR: In this paper, the radiation characteristics of the unicellular green algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii strain CC125 and its truncated chlorophyll antenna transformants tla1, tlaX, and tla 1-CW+ were investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Physico-chemical surface properties of microalgae.

TL;DR: The results showed that species known to form colonies and exhibit benthic cultures had distinctly hydrophobic surfaces compared to microalgae prefering planktonic growth, indicating the importance of surface hydrophobicity for causing biofouiling or flocculation of cultures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cell to substratum and cell to cell interactions of microalgae.

TL;DR: This paper reports the cell to substratum and cell to cell interactions of a diverse group of microalgae based on the Extended Derjaguin, Landau, Verwey, Overbeek (XDLVO) approach using the previously reported physico-chemical surface properties.
