Fatty acid cycling mechanism and mitochondrial uncoupling proteins
Petr Jezek,Hana Engstová,Markéta Z̆ác̆ková,Anibal E. Vercesi,Alexandre D.T. Costa,Paulo Arruda,Keith D. Garlid +6 more
TL;DR: It is speculated that fatty acid-induced uncoupling serves in bioenergetic systems to set the optimum efficiency and tune the degree of coupling of oxidative phosphorylation in mammalian mitochondria and plant mitochondria by PUMP and StUCP.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hypoxic HepG2 cell adaptation decreases ATP synthase dimers and ATP production in inflated cristae by mitofilin down-regulation concomitant to MICOS clustering
Lydie Plecitá-Hlavatá,Hana Engstová,Lukáš Alán,Tomáš Špaček,Andrea Dlasková,Katarína Smolková,Jitka Špačková,Jan Tauber,Vendula Stradalova,Jan Malínský,Mark D. Lessard,Joerg Bewersdorf,Petr Ježek +12 more
TL;DR: Three dimensional (3D), super‐resolution biplane fluorescence photoactivation localization microscopy indicated hypoxic ICS expansion with an unchanged OMM, and 3D direct stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy immunocytochemistry revealed foci of clustered mitofilin (but not MIC OS subunit Mic19) in contrast to its even normoxic distribution.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antioxidant and regulatory role of mitochondrial uncoupling protein UCP2 in pancreatic beta-cells.
Petr Ježek,Tomas Olejar,Katarína Smolková,Jan Ježek,Andrea Dlasková,Lydie Plecitá-Hlavatá,Jaroslav Zelenka,Tomáš Špaček,Hana Engstová,D Pajuelo Reguera,Martin Jabůrek +10 more
TL;DR: UCP2 physiological roles emphasizing its roles in pancreatic beta-cells, such as antioxidant role, possible tuning of redox homeostasis (consequently UCP2 participation in redox regulations), and fine regulation of glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
3D super-resolution microscopy reflects mitochondrial cristae alternations and mtDNA nucleoid size and distribution
Andrea Dlasková,Hana Engstová,Tomáš Špaček,Anežka Kahancová,Vojtěch Pavluch,Katarína Smolková,Jitka Špačková,Martin Bartoš,Lydie Hlavatá,Petr Ježek +9 more
TL;DR: 3D single molecule (dSTORM) microscopy is a reasonable tool for studying mitochondrion and average inter-nucleoid distance is confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Silica-modified monodisperse hexagonal lanthanide nanocrystals: synthesis and biological properties.
Uliana Kostiv,Olga Janoušková,Miroslav Šlouf,Nikolay Kotov,Hana Engstová,Katarína Smolková,Petr Ježek,Daniel Horák +7 more
TL;DR: From the investigated particles, amino-functionalized NaYF4:Yb(3+)/Er(3+) nanocrystals internalized into the cells most efficiently and proved to be nontoxic at moderate concentrations, which is important when considering their prospective application in biolabeling and luminescence imaging of various cell types.
