Journal ArticleDOI

Fatty acid cycling mechanism and mitochondrial uncoupling proteins

TL;DR: It is speculated that fatty acid-induced uncoupling serves in bioenergetic systems to set the optimum efficiency and tune the degree of coupling of oxidative phosphorylation in mammalian mitochondria and plant mitochondria by PUMP and StUCP.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hypoxic HepG2 cell adaptation decreases ATP synthase dimers and ATP production in inflated cristae by mitofilin down-regulation concomitant to MICOS clustering

TL;DR: Three dimensional (3D), super‐resolution biplane fluorescence photoactivation localization microscopy indicated hypoxic ICS expansion with an unchanged OMM, and 3D direct stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy immunocytochemistry revealed foci of clustered mitofilin (but not MIC OS subunit Mic19) in contrast to its even normoxic distribution.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antioxidant and regulatory role of mitochondrial uncoupling protein UCP2 in pancreatic beta-cells.

TL;DR: UCP2 physiological roles emphasizing its roles in pancreatic beta-cells, such as antioxidant role, possible tuning of redox homeostasis (consequently UCP2 participation in redox regulations), and fine regulation of glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Silica-modified monodisperse hexagonal lanthanide nanocrystals: synthesis and biological properties.

TL;DR: From the investigated particles, amino-functionalized NaYF4:Yb(3+)/Er(3+) nanocrystals internalized into the cells most efficiently and proved to be nontoxic at moderate concentrations, which is important when considering their prospective application in biolabeling and luminescence imaging of various cell types.
