Journal ArticleDOI
Oral Decontamination with Chlorhexidine Reduces the Incidence of Ventilator-associated Pneumonia
Mirelle Koeman,André van der Ven,Eelko Hak,Hans C. A. Joore,Karin A H Kaasjager,Anne Marie G. A. de Smet,Graham Ramsay,Tom Dormans,Leon P. H. J. Aarts,Ernst E. de Bel,Willem N. M. Hustinx,Ingeborg van der Tweel,Andy I. M. Hoepelman,Marc J. M. Bonten +13 more
TL;DR: Topical oral decontamination with CHX or CHX/COL reduces the incidence of VAP and provides significant reduction in oropharyngeal colonization with both gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, whereas CHX mostly affected gram- positive microorganisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Robot-assisted Minimally Invasive Thoracolaparoscopic Esophagectomy Versus Open Transthoracic Esophagectomy for Resectable Esophageal Cancer: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Pieter C. van der Sluis,Sylvia van der Horst,Anne M. May,Carlo Schippers,Lodewijk A.A. Brosens,Hans C. A. Joore,Christiaan C. Kroese,Nadia Haj Mohammad,Stella Mook,Frank P. Vleggaar,Inne H.M. Borel Rinkes,Jelle P. Ruurda,Richard van Hillegersberg +12 more
TL;DR: Robot-assisted minimally invasive thoracolaparoscopic esophageal cancer treatment with RAMIE resulted in a lower percentage of overall surgery-related and cardiopulmonary complications with lower postoperative pain, better short-term quality of life, and a better long-term postoperative functional recovery compared to OTE.
Journal ArticleDOI
Feasibility and effects of the semirecumbent position to prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia: a randomized study.
Christianne A. van Nieuwenhoven,Christine Vandenbroucke-Grauls,Frank H. van Tiel,Hans C. A. Joore,Rob J M Strack van Schijndel,Ingeborg van der Tweel,Graham Ramsay,Marc J. M. Bonten +7 more
TL;DR: The targeted backrest elevation of 45° for semirecumbent positioning was not reached in the conditions of the present randomized study and did not prevent the development of VAP.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between administered oxygen, arterial partial oxygen pressure and mortality in mechanically ventilated intensive care unit patients
Evert de Jonge,Linda M. Peelen,Peter J M Keijzers,Hans C. A. Joore,Dylan W. de Lange,Peter H. J. van der Voort,Robert J. Bosman,Ruud Al de Waal,R. M.J. Wesselink,Nicolette F. de Keizer +9 more
TL;DR: Focusing on oxygenation in the first 24 h of admission, in-hospital mortality was shown to be linearly related to FiO2 value and had a U-shaped relationship with PaO2, independent of each other and of Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS).
Journal ArticleDOI
Robot-assisted minimally invasive thoraco-laparoscopic esophagectomy versus open transthoracic esophagectomy for resectable esophageal cancer, a randomized controlled trial (ROBOT trial)
Pieter C. van der Sluis,Jelle P. Ruurda,Sylvia van der Horst,Roy J. J. Verhage,Marc G. Besselink,M. J. D. Prins,Leonie Haverkamp,Carlo Schippers,Inne H.M. Borel Rinkes,Hans C. A. Joore,Fiebo J.W. ten Kate,Hendrik Koffijberg,Christiaan C. Kroese,Maarten S. van Leeuwen,Martijn P. Lolkema,Onne Reerink,Marguerite E.I. Schipper,Elles Steenhagen,Frank P. Vleggaar,Emile E. Voest,Peter D. Siersema,Richard van Hillegersberg +21 more
TL;DR: If the hypothesis is proven correct, RATE will result in a lower percentage of postoperative complications, lower blood loss, and shorter hospital stay, but with at least similar oncologic outcomes and better postoperative quality of life compared with open transthoracic esophagectomy.
