TL;DR: The Nalkylated 2-benzoylamino and benzophenones 2a−e on treatment with lithium diisopropylamide in tetrahydrofuran at − 78° gave the cyclic alchols 3a−1 which were dehydrated with phosphorous oxychloride/pyridine to give the indoles 4a−2 in 30−72% yield.
