Journal ArticleDOI

Ca2+ ions, an allosteric activator of calcium uptake in rat liver mitochondria

TL;DR: This investigation shows that extramitochondrial calcium released from the deenergized mitochondria causes the allosteric activation of the Ca uniporter and the implications of continually changing kinetics are considered for carbon tetrachloride intoxication and the action of alpha 1-adrenergic agonists in liver cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spermine, another specific allosteric activator of calcium uptake in rat liver mitochondria

TL;DR: The acceleration of Ca uptake at low, physiological Ca2+ concentrations is related to the altered kinetics of the Ca uniporter, and the kinetics changed from sigmoidal in the absence to nearly hyperbolic in the presence of spermine.
Journal ArticleDOI

Regulation of Ca2+ fluxes in rat liver mitochondria by Ca2+. Effects on Ca2+ distribution.

TL;DR: By measuring unidirectional Ca2+ fluxes, it was found that the uniporter was stimulated during the rebounding peak both under Bernardi's and Kröner's conditions, while no effects on the efflux could be demonstrated.
