TL;DR: The role of ribosomes in protein synthesis has appeared increasingly complex in recent years and it is known that they specifically bind messenger RNA, aminoacyl- and peptidyl-transfer RNA, formylmethionyl- transfer RNA, GTP, and probably at least six different protein factors.
Abstract: The role of ribosomes in protein synthesis has appeared increasingly complex in recent years. It is known that they specifically bind messenger RNA, aminoacyl- and peptidyl-transfer RNA, formylmethionyl-transfer RNA, GTP, and probably at least six different protein factors. They are the sites for the reactions of chain initiation, chain termination and amino acid polymerization itself.
