Friction Stir Welding on Aluminum Alloy 6063 Pipe

Abstract: In Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process, there is a substantial amount of research done on aluminum plate but very few are found for aluminum pipe due to its tubular shape. A specially customized Orbital Clamping Unit (OCU) was used and fixed on the Bridgeport 2216 CNC milling machine in order to weld an aluminum alloy 6063 pipe butt joint at several welding parameters. This OCU will hold the work pieces together tightly, rotate them at the required constant low speed, and ensure easy removal. This paper will investigate the effect of welding parameters on the tensile strength of joint produced by the FSW process. Several good samples of pipes joint were produced using the present experiment setting.

Heat Transfer Modeling of Metal Deposition Employing Welding Heat Source

TL;DR: In this paper, a 3D finite element based thermal model of a novel welding based deposition process was presented for layered manufacturing of metallic components, and the results showed that the process is not axis symmetric and a complete 3D model is required for accurate prediction of temperatures and deformation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Development of a New Approach for Incorporating Tool Tilting in Friction Stir Welding

TL;DR: In this article, a new approach is developed and adopted for overcoming this limitation of a fixed head vertical milling machine to incorporate the flexibility of tool tilt, which results in substantial defects (e.g. tunnel defect) in weldments.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of cutting conditions on chip formation when turning assab DF-3 hardened tool steel

TL;DR: In this paper, both cutting speed and feed rate were found to influence the formation of saw tooth shape on the chip from a non-saw tooth shape, which was observed using digital camera and optical microscope and were studied in terms of their form, thickness and micro hardness.

Improved Surface Integrity during End Milling AISI 316L Stainless Steel Using Heat Assisted Machining

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used oxyacetylene combustion flame as a heat source in heat assisted machining and investigated the relationship between process conditions; maximum temperature distribution and the surface integrity of 316L stainless steel during preheat machining as compared to dry hard part machining.
