Journal ArticleDOI

MicroRNAs expressed by herpes simplex virus 1 during latent infection regulate viral mRNAs

TL;DR: HSV-1 expresses at least two primary miRNA precursors in latently infected neurons that may facilitate the establishment and maintenance of viral latency by post-transcriptionally regulating viral gene expression.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Mammalian Herpesvirus Uses Noncanonical Expression and Processing Mechanisms to Generate Viral MicroRNAs

TL;DR: It is reported that the miRNAs encoded by murine gamma-herpesvirus 68 (MHV68) are also generated via atypical mechanisms, and are transcribed from RNA polymerase III promoters located within adjacent viral tRNA-like sequences.
