TL;DR: In this paper, a qualitative interview with suppliers and customers in the Finnish sawn timber value chain was conducted to analyze sawmills' customer orientation, and the authors found that the concept of customer orientation was realized rather narrowly and customer orientation appeared as random actions instead of a systematic part of firms' organization culture.

Constraints leading to system-level lock-ins—the case of electronic waste management in the circular economy

TL;DR: In this article, the authors systematically go through the various factors that prevent the implementation and diffusion of new closed-loop solutions and, thus, the transformation towards a circular economy, and identify three system-level lock-ins, the national extended producer responsibility scheme, technoeconomic issues, and tensions in the supply chain, which impede the adoption of innovations and the consequent transformation of the WEEE management system.
