The Safety and Efficacy of Chorionic Villus Sampling for Early Prenatal Diagnosis of Cytogenetic Abnormalities
George G. Rhoads,L. Jackson,Sarah E. Schlesselman,de la Cruz Ff,Robert J. Desnick,M S Golbus,David H. Ledbetter,Herbert A. Lubs,Maurice J. Mahoney,Eugene Pergament +9 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that chorionic villus sampling is a safe and effective technique for the early prenatal diagnosis of cytogenetic abnormalities, but that it probably entails a slightly higher risk of procedure failure and of fetal loss than does amniocentesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Specific reading disability: identification of an inherited form through linkage analysis
TL;DR: Results from linkage analysis in families with apparent autosomal dominant reading disability strongly suggest that a gene playing a major etiologic role in one form of reading disability is on chromosome 15.
Journal ArticleDOI
Allan-Herndon-Dudley Syndrome and the Monocarboxylate Transporter 8 (MCT8) Gene
Charles E. Schwartz,Melanie M. May,Nancy J. Carpenter,R. Curtis Rogers,Judith A. Martin,Martin G. Bialer,Jewell C. Ward,Javier Sanabria,Silvana Mariel Marsa,James A. Lewis,Roberto J. Echeverri,Herbert A. Lubs,Kytja K. S. Voeller,Richard J. Simensen,Roger E. Stevenson +14 more
TL;DR: Although clinical signs of thyroid dysfunction are usually absent in affected males, the disturbances in blood levels of thyroid hormones suggest the possibility of systematic detection through screening of high-risk populations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cytogenetic results from the U.S. Collaborative Study on CVS.
David H. Ledbetter,Julia Zachary,J. Simpson,M S Golbus,Eugene Pergament,L. Jackson,Maurice J. Mahoney,Robert J. Desnick,Joseph D. Schulman,Karen L. Copeland,Yury Verlinsky,Teresa L. Yang-Feng,Steven A. Schonberg,Arvind Babu,Avirachan T. Tharapel,A. Dorfmann,Herbert A. Lubs,George G. Rhoads,Sarah E. Fowler,F. de la Cruz +19 more
TL;DR: From these data, it is clear that the culture method has a higher degree of diagnostic accuracy than the direct method, which should not be used as the sole diagnostic technique.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neuroanatomic Differences Between Dyslexic and Normal Readers on Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scans
Ranjan Duara,Alex Kushch,Karen Gross-Glenn,William W. Barker,Bonnie Jallad,Shlomo Pascal,David A. Loewenstein,Jerome J. Sheldon,Mark Rabin,Bonnie E. Levin,Herbert A. Lubs +10 more
TL;DR: The areas of six bilateral brain segments in the right and left hemispheres and the area of subdivisions of the corpus callosum were measured to suggest an anatomic abnormality in the angular gyrus region.
