Journal ArticleDOI

Column Supported Cylindrical-Conical Tanks

TL;DR: In this article, a finite element analysis of a tank supported on columns attached to the shell wall is conducted based on an analytical model of the system, and the effectiveness of a radial stiffener on reducing the design forces is demonstrated and the mechanism of axial load transfer between columns and the shell is investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Direct dynamic analysis of shells of revolution using high-precision finite elements☆

TL;DR: In this paper, a direct numerical integration of the equations of motion of a rotational shell of revolution under conservative loading is presented. But, the method is only suitable for static problems, and it is only approximate for dynamic response.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stresses in column-supported hyperboloidal shells subject to seismic loading

TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider the importance of accurately modeling the base region of a column-supported shell such as a hyperbolic cooling tower and two alternative computational formats within this technique are explored.
