TL;DR: Patients with this disorder present with transient thyrotoxicosis, with a marked depression of the thyroid radioactive iodine uptake, and often develop goitrous or atropic persistent hypothyroidism, and may represent acute exacerbation of an underlying immunological process during the course of CT.
