Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of intensive blood-pressure lowering and low-dose aspirin in patients with hypertension: principal results of the Hypertension Optimal Treatment (HOT) randomised trial
Lennart Hansson,Alberto Zanchetti,S. George Carruthers,Björn Dahlöf,Dag Elmfeldt,Stevo Julius,Joël Ménard,Karl Heinz Rahn,Hans Wedel,Sten Westerling +9 more
TL;DR: Intensive lowering of blood pressure in patients with hypertension was associated with a low rate of cardiovascular events and the potential benefit of a low dose of acetylsalicylic acid in the treatment of hypertension was assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence-Based Medicine: A New Approach to Teaching the Practice of Medicine
Gordon H. Guyatt,John A. Cairns,David N. Churchill,Deborah J. Cook,Brian Haynes,Jack Hirsh,Jan Irvine,Mark Levine,Mitchell Levine,Jim Nishikawa,David L. Sackett,Patrick Brill-Edwards,Hertzel C. Gerstein,James L. Gibson,Roman Jaeschke,Anthony Kerigan,Alan J. Neville,Akbar Panju,Allan S. Detsky,Murray Enkin,Pamela Frid,Martha S. Gerrity,Andreas Laupacis,Valerie A. Lawrence,Joël Ménard,Virginia Moyer,Cynthia D. Mulrow,Paul Links,Andrew D Oxman,Jack Sinclair,Peter Tugwell +30 more
TL;DR: An important goal of the medical residency program is to educate physicians in the practice of evidence-based medicine, and strategies include a weekly, formal academic half-day for residents devoted to learning the necessary skills.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clearance systems in the brain—implications for Alzheimer disease
Jenna M. Tarasoff-Conway,Roxana O. Carare,Ricardo S. Osorio,Lidia Glodzik,Tracy Butler,Els Fieremans,Leon Axel,Henry Rusinek,Charles Nicholson,Berislav V. Zlokovic,Blas Frangione,Kaj Blennow,Joël Ménard,Henrik Zetterberg,Thomas Wisniewski,Mony J. de Leon +15 more
TL;DR: The clearance systems of the brain as they relate to proteins implicated in AD pathology are described, with the main focus on Aβ.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cardiovascular Prognosis of Masked Hypertension Detected by Blood Pressure Self-measurement in Elderly Treated Hypertensive Patients
Guillaume Bobrie,Gilles Chatellier,Nathalie Genès,P. Clerson,Laurent Vaur,B. Vaisse,Joël Ménard,Jean-Michel Mallion +7 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that home BP measurement has a better prognostic accuracy than office BP measurement, and should systematically be measured at home in patients receiving treatment for hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Measurement of Renin Activity, Concentration and Substrate in Rat Plasma by Radioimmunoassay of Angiotensin I
Joël Ménard,Kevin J. Catt +1 more
TL;DR: The sensitivity of the method permits measurements of all three renin parameters in small plasma samples, allowing sequential determinations to be performed in individual animals, and determination of the pH optimum for renin activity and of the correlations between PRA and PRC were identical with those obtained by bioassay.
