This paper evaluates intercept probability (IP) of a cooperative cognitive radio network. Using Fountain codes, a secondary source continuously generates encoded packets, and sends them to secondary destination and relay nodes that attempt to receive a sufficient number of the encoded packets for recovering the source data. If the relay can sufficiently collect the packets before the destination, it replaces the source to transmit the encoded packets to the destination. Also in the secondary network, a passive eavesdropper attempts to illegally receive the packets sent by the source and relay nodes, and if it can accumulate enough encoded packets, the source data is intercepted. To enhance secrecy performance, in terms of IP, a cooperative jammer is used to transmit noises on the eavesdropper. We also propose a simple transmit power allocation method for the secondary transmitters such as source, relay and jammer so that outage performance of a primary network is not harmful. We derive an exact closed-form expression of IP over Rayleigh fading channel, and verify it by performing Monte-Carlo simulations.

Intercept Probability Analysis of Cooperative Cognitive Networks Using Fountain Codes and Cooperative Jamming

In this paper, we propose a digital network coding protocol to enhance data rate for the secondary network in underlay cognitive radio environment. In the proposed protocol, transmit antenna selection and selection combining techniques are respectively used by a primary transmitter and a primary receiver to enhance performance for a primary network. In a secondary network, two secondary sources exchange their information via assistance of a common secondary relay that employs interference cancellation method to reduce one time slot, as compared with the conventional digital network coding protocol. We derive expressions of transmit power of the secondary nodes under a constraint of outage probability (OP) given by the primary network. Exact and asymptotic closed-form formulas of OP of the secondary network over Rayleigh fading channel are derived, and verified by Monte-Carlo simulations.

Outage Probability of Interference Cancellation Based Two-Way Relaying Cognitive Radio Protocol with Primary MIMO Communication

We investigate cognitive radio networks where the unlicensed sender operates in the overlay mode to relay the information of the licensed transmitter as well as send its individual information. To secure information broadcasted by the unlicensed sender against the wire-tapper, we invoke jammers to limit eavesdropping. Also, to exploit efficiently radio frequency energy in licensed signals, we propose the unlicensed sender and all jammers to scavenge this energy source. To assess the security measures of both licensed and unlicensed networks, we first derive rigorous closed-form formulas of licensed/unlicensed secrecy outage probabilities. Next, we validate these formulas with Monte-Carlo simulations before using them to achieve insights into the security capability of the proposed jamming-aided energy harvesting cognitive radio networks in crucial system parameters.

Security for Jamming-Aided Energy Harvesting Cognitive Radio Networks

This paper evaluates outage probability (OP) of a cooperative underlay cognitive radio network in the presence of a passive secondary eavesdropper under joint impacts of limited interference from a primary network and hardware impairments. With intercept probability constraint required for the eavesdropper and interference constraint given by a primary receiver, we derive closed-form expressions of transmit power for the secondary transmitters, including source and relays, only relying on the knowledge of statistical channel state information (CSI). Then, a relay selection method is used in the cooperative phase to enhance the OP performance of the considered protocol. For performance evaluation, we derive an exact closed-form expression of OP over Rayleigh fading channel. Finally, we perform Monte Carlo simulations to verify the derived formulas.
