CNS late-effects after ALL therapy in childhood. Part III: neuropsychological performance in long-term survivors of childhood ALL: impairments of concentration, attention, and memory.
Thorsten Langer,Peter Martus,Holger Ottensmeier,Holger Hertzberg,Jörn D. Beck,Walburga Meier +5 more
TL;DR: The neuropsychological function is defined and which central nervous system functions are impaired following the German ALL-BFM and COALL protocols for CNS-negative patients are described to support the strategy of avoiding prophylactic CNS irradiation in low risk patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
CNS late effects after ALL therapy in childhood. Part I: Neuroradiological findings in long-term survivors of childhood ALL—an evaluation of the interferences between morphology and neuropsychological performance
Holger Hertzberg,Walter J. Huk,Michael A. Ueberall,Thorsten Langer,Walburga Meier,Roland Dopfer,Martin Skalej,Herwig Lackner,Udo Bode,G Janssen,Felix Zintl,Jörn D. Beck +11 more
TL;DR: Children treated with cranial irradiation in combination with SMHDMTX and/or ITMTX were at greater risk of developing morphological brain alterations than patients with chemotherapy alone and seem to stay with a longer posttherapeutic interval.
Journal ArticleDOI
Die Nachsorge der von einer Krebserkrankung geheilten Kinder und jungen Erwachsenen. Erste Empfehlungen der Arbeitsgemeinschaft Spätfolgen
Jörn-Dirk Beck,Kurt Winkler,Dietrich Niethammer,Mathias Brandis,Holger Hertzberg,Katharina von der Hardt,Johann Greil,Michael A. Überall,Rainer Rossi,Antoinette Lamprecht-Dinnesen,Jürgen Brämswig,Peter Kaatsch,Jörg Michaelis,Walburga Meier,Matthias Hausdorf,Stefan S. Bielack,Helmuth-Günther Dörr +16 more
TL;DR: An increasing number of children suffering from cancer has been treated successfully during the last 25 years using therapy protocolls of the GPOH using an interdisciplinary treatment modality and a mostly intensive chemotherapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
CNS late effects after ALL therapy in childhood. Part II: Conventional EEG recordings in asymptomatic long‐term survivors of childhood ALL‐ An evaluation of the interferences between neurophysiology, neurology, psychology, and CNS morphology
Michael A. Ueberall,D. Wenzel,Holger Hertzberg,Thorsten Langer,Walburga Meier,K. Berger‐Jones,Walter J. Huk,G. Neuhäuser,F. Lampert,Jörn D. Beck,Rudolf Korinthenberg +10 more
TL;DR: Overall, there was no beneficial effect of routine EEG testing in children following therapy for ALL and the evaluation of conventional EEG recordings of otherwise asymptomatic ALL long-term survivors is not a very helpful measure for predicting the degree of behavioral deficiencies, neurological disturbances, or morphological CNS abnormalities, which may be present or will develop in this special subject group.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neurophysiological findings in long-term survivors of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in childhood treated with the BFM protocol 81 SR-A/B.
Ueberall Ma,Skirl G,Strassburg Hm,D. Wenzel,Holger Hertzberg,Thorsten Langer,Walburga Meier,K. Berger‐Jones,Walter J. Huk,Rudolf Korinthenberg,Jörn D. Beck +10 more
TL;DR: Routinely performed EEG/VEP investi gations are not very helpful measures to predict the presence or degree of behavioural deficiencies, neuro‐logical disturbances, or morphological CNS abnor‐malities.
