This work presents the cloud-assisted secure WBAN for healthcare application. There are various security issues associated with WBAN, which need to be solved to provide a secure real-time health monitoring system. Through this implementation, the patient’s vital signals can be accessed in a secure manner in real time remotely by sensors and networks without visiting doctor’s clinic or hospital. Here, we provide the cost-effective solution for the transmission of the patient’s health data to doctor with proper confidentiality, authenticity, freshness, and security using cloud computing. In this work, the biosignals of patients and doctors are used to provide authenticity and vital signals are encrypted by using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) for the secure m-health application. We have experimentally analyzed the average end-to-end delay for secure healthcare application is 14.59 and 19.31 ms in off-peak hours and peak hours respectively. This delay is only 5.84% in off-peak hours and 7.72% in peak hours of permissible delay of 250 ms for medical application.

Implementation of Cloud-Assisted Secure Data Transmission in WBAN for Healthcare Monitoring

This paper describes a new mobile authentication method which is based on an Open ID Connect standard and subscriber identity module card. The proposed solution enables users to access websites, services and applications without the need to remember passwords, responses or support of any equipment. The proposed method is evaluated from the users’ perspective as well as from the security viewpoint. Moreover, we compare it with the two most popular existing authentication schemes i.e. static passwords and SMS OTP (one time password). In order to evaluate user’s view on various authentication methods a questionnaire was prepared and distributed among 40 participants. Obtained results revealed that the new authentication scheme yielded better results than the existing methods. Finally, we also performed a security analysis with respect to all abovementioned authentication solutions to assess whether there are any major risks related to the proposed method.

User perspective and security of a new mobile authentication method

Skin-color information is not sufficient for palmprint segmentation in complex scenes, including mobile environments. Traditional active shape model (ASM) combines gray information and shape information, but its performance is not good in complex scenes. An improved ASM method is developed for palmprint segmentation, in which Perux method normalizes the shape of the palm. Then the shape model of the palm is calculated with principal component analysis. Finally, the color likelihood degree is used to replace the gray information for target fitting. The improved ASM method reduces the complexity, while improves the accuracy and robustness.

This paper pioneers an experimentation on assessing security and performance of a well-established biometric authentication protocol. Using the gold standard in software reliability, a path-oriented software quality control tool, the work exploits the attack surface leveraging path analysis. The test not only identifies security vulnerabilities in a system but also pinpoints those vulnerabilities at real security risk to optimize resource allocation. The automated holistic examination of the authentication process reveals a weakness in the biometric authentication protocol at study. The attack map generated from the analysis directs its improvement. Reexamination validates the security of the protocol. The work also studies the computational complexity of the protocol, thereby, recommends the key length suitable to biometric authentication for wireless body area networks.

Biometric sensor/actuators communicating via wireless body area networks has surged wide applications. From seamless healthcare to driverless transportation, biologically inspired systems benefit with productivity growth, energy efficiency, user convenience, and cost reduction. However, their invasive nature raises concerns. Security becomes the urgent task to realize biologically-enabled systems. Biological phenomena, nevertheless, can also play a vital role to secure software. Recently, several biometric authentication protocols have emerged to verify endpoints, promising one-time key for premium security. In spite of bio-enabled security advances, lack of security analysis theories and tools causes uncertainty of their safety.
