Bistable energy harvesting backpack: Design, modeling, and experiments

A method to implement different pulse modulation schemes of Ultra-wideband (UWB) signal based on phase modulator (PM) and fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is proposed. The method of UWB pulse generation based on FBG is explained. UWB signal generation with different modulation schemes by two FBGs is studied. A simple system is setup to implement of bi- phase modulation (BPM), pulse-position modulation (PPM) and pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM) schemes. The results prove our numerical analyze.

Generation of Modulated Ultra-Wideband Signals Based on Fiber Bragg Grating

A novel approach to implement high channel-count comb filters based on a DC phase shift is proposed. Various channel spacings can be achieved by a single chirped phase mask and a submicrometer-precision translation stage. Simulation and experiment show that arbitrary phase shifts introduced by DC refractive index modulation can be achieved. An multichannel comb filter with channel spacing of 100 GHz, 50 GHz and 40 GHz is implemented with the same phase mask. A comparison between the proposed DC phase shift and traditional discrete phase shift is made.

A method of inducing phase shifts in Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) by increasing Dc refractive index of the FBG is presented and experimentally verified. Only submicrometer-precision in control is enough and the phase mask in not necessarily needed in fabrication. The proposed method is markedly advantageous in cost-effectiveness, flexibility and simplicity compared to traditional ways in fabrication and mass production particularly in applications like optical code-division multiple-access (OCDMA) en/decoder ,optical filter in which complex multi-phase shifts are needed.
