Device and method for displaying execution result of application

The Deep Noise Suppression (DNS) challenge is designed to foster innovation in the area of noise suppression to achieve superior perceptual speech quality. We recently organized a DNS challenge special session at INTERSPEECH 2020. We open sourced training and test datasets for researchers to train their noise suppression models. We also open sourced a subjective evaluation framework and used the tool to evaluate and pick the final winners. Many researchers from academia and industry made significant contributions to push the field forward. We also learned that as a research community, we still have a long way to go in achieving excellent speech quality in challenging noisy real-time conditions. In this challenge, we are expanding both our training and test datasets. There are two tracks with one focusing on real-time denoising and the other focusing on real-time personalized deep noise suppression. We also make a non-intrusive objective speech quality metric called DNSMOS available for participants to use during their development stages. The final evaluation will be based on subjective tests.

Mobile terminal and method of controlling the mobile terminal

Modern deep learning-based models have seen outstanding performance improvement with speech enhancement tasks. The number of parameters of state-of-the-art models, however, is often too large to be deployed on devices for real-world applications. To this end, we propose Tiny Recurrent U-Net (TRU-Net), a lightweight online inference model that matches the performance of current state-of- the-art models. The size of the quantized version of TRU-Net is 362 kilobytes, which is small enough to be deployed on edge devices. In addition, we combine the small-sized model with a new masking method called phase-aware s-sigmoid mask, which enables simultaneous denoising and dereverberation. Results of both objective and subjective evaluations have shown that our model can achieve competitive performance with the current state-of-the-art models on benchmark datasets using fewer parameters by orders of magnitude.

Real-Time Denoising and Dereverberation wtih Tiny Recurrent U-Net

With the increasing popularity of touch screen mobile devices, improving the usability and the user experience while inputting text on these devices is becoming increasingly important. Most conventional touch screen keyboards on mobile devices rely heavily on visual feedback, while auditory feedback seldom includes any useful information about what is being inputted by the user. The auditory feedback usually simply replicates the sounds produced by a physical keyboard. This paper describes the development of an enhanced auditory feedback mechanism for a Korean touch screen keyboard called the enhanced auditory feedback (EAF) mechanism. EAF has subtle phonetic auditory feedback generated using the acoustic phonetic features of human speech. While typing with EAF, users can acquire non-invasive auditory clues about the keys pressed. In this work, we compare conventional auditory feedback for a touch screen keyboard used in touch screen mobile devices with that of EAF and explore the possibility of using enhanced auditory feedback for touch screen keyboards.

Enhanced auditory feedback for Korean touch screen keyboards

In this work, we tackle a denoising and dereverberation problem with a single-stage framework. Although denoising and dereverberation may be considered two separate challenging tasks, and thus, two modules are typically required for each task, we show that a single deep network can be shared to solve the two problems. To this end, we propose a new masking method called phase-aware beta-sigmoid mask (PHM), which reuses the estimated magnitude values to estimate the clean phase by respecting the triangle inequality in the complex domain between three signal components such as mixture, source and the rest. Two PHMs are used to deal with direct and reverberant source, which allows controlling the proportion of reverberation in the enhanced speech at inference time. In addition, to improve the speech enhancement performance, we propose a new time-domain loss function and show a reasonable performance gain compared to MSE loss in the complex domain. Finally, to achieve a real-time inference, an optimization strategy for U-Net is proposed which significantly reduces the computational overhead up to 88.9% compared to the naive version.
