An apparatus for accommodating box-like articles is disclosed, which comprises a case (12) open at least at the front for permitting a plurality of box-like articles [e.g., cassettes (11)] to be slidably accommodated through the front opening (13) independently of one another and in a plurality of rows disposed one above another, biasing means [e.g., compression springs (27) and (34)] for independently forwardly urging the box-like articles (11) accommodated in the case (12), locking means [e.g., heart-­like cam groove (30c) and locking pin (36)] for locking the box-like articles (11) in their retreated positions in the case (12) against the biasing forces of the biasing means (27, 34), and stopper means [e.g., shoulder surface (40) of the case (12), front edge (14˝) of upper slide holder (14), upright surfaces (15c) of lower slide holder (15) and rear wall surface of recessed portion (19)] for stopping the box-like articles (11) such that these in a row partly project outwardly from the opening (13) of the case (12) to a smaller extent than that in the next lower row.

Apparatus for accommodating box-like articles

The ashtray has a fireproof housing (1) with an opening with a fireproof lid (2). The opening is round and is hermetically sealable by a seal (8) which is joined to the lid or the housing. The lid is sprung and pivots relative to the housing and is lockable in the closed position. The air pressure within the housing is lowered by a suction device. The suction device is an electric pump (4), powered by batteries or an accumulator (6) charged by solar cells. The pump is actuated by the closure of the lid which is relayed via a mechanical or optical switch and operates for a pre-set or variable time period. The exhaust from the pump passes through a filter.

The ashtray module has a housing (1) with two opposite side walls (18), an opening (22), and an insert (2) fitted through the opening. The insert has a front end wall (12). Guides on the side walls and the insert, permit the insert to be moved form a non-use position inside the housing, along a translatory circle track, into a use-position. In this position, the insert projects partially from the housing, and its end wall is mainly horizontal. The guides are formed by guide ribs (7) and associated slide runners (4).

The system for assembly (1) consists of two moving parts (6,7), each moving part having a take-up surface (25,40) in the form of a toothed rack, arranged to come in contact with a braking shaft of the braking unit (8). The system consists of a single braking unit (8), of moving parts (6,7) of which the take up surfaces (25,40) are set in the same perpendicular plane to the braking shaft (8). These surfaces (25,40) being offset on one of the moving parts to the other (6,7) in a way that only one of these surfaces at a time is able to take up with the shaft of the braking unit (8). A button (18) controls the movement to the moving part (7) only when the take up surface (25) of the other part (6) is not engaged with the braking shaft (8).

The arrangement is for covering an opening in a vehicle instrument panel with a movable cover. It moves between an open and a closed position with the cover when closed in an almost horizontal position and when opening moves into a position in the rear of the opening. In the region of the edge (29) of the opening (27) close to the rear edge of the cover (5) in its closed position is a wiper (20) along which the upper surface (7) of the cover (4) slides as it slides into its open position.

The ashtray holder has a U-shaped housing (12) secured into the dashboard fitting, with the U-profile inverted. The E-shaped clips are clipped to each side of the housing leaving two fingers, with guide profiles facing the ashtray recess and gripping grooves along each side of the ashtray. The tray is retained in the recess by a spring clip over the top edge whole the bottom of the recess is part of the dashboard moulding. The guide clips locate in holes in the sides of the housing.

After releasing the lock the drawer (3) moves out automatically into the open position through the force of the spring (13). A brake device is provided to restrict the speed at which the drawer moves open. The brake system can be a hydraulic brake using highly viscous oil or grease. It can have a disc mounted in a chamber filled with brake fluid, so that the disc can be driven relative to the chamber rotating about an axis.

The ash tray mounted in a vehicle, has an open mouthed receptacle (3) supported inside a frame (1) so that it can be tilted about a horizontal axis. The frame is fitted into a recess in the vehicle and when the receptacle is swung forwards, its open mouth faces the front opening. It can then be swung backwards with its mouth inside. Its position is controlled by a spring which contacts a fixed stop (36) and also by a braking device. Part (20) of the surface of the receptacle is curved and incorporates teeth which mesh with the teeth of a pinion (52) forming part of a gear train terminating in another pinion (54) carrying a bladed rotor (50) acting as a flywheel. This forms the braking device.
