En route to surface-bound electric field-driven molecular motors.

TL;DR: Four caltrop-shaped molecules that might be useful as surface-bound electric field-driven molecular motors have been synthesized and Ellipsometric studies show that self-assembled monolayers of the caltrops are formed on Au surfaces with molecular thicknesses consistent with the desired upright-shaft arrangement.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular Grafting to Silicon Surfaces in Air Using Organic Triazenes as Stable Diazonium Sources and HF as a Constant Hydride-Passivation Source

TL;DR: In this article, aryl molecules were covalently grafted to hydride-passivated Si(100) surfaces (Si−H) by the in situ conversion of aryldiethyltriazenes into diazonium salts using 2% HF, followed by spontaneous surface grafting of the aryls species to the silicon surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

Triazenes as a Stable Diazonium Source for Use in Functionalizing Carbon Nanotubes in Aqueous Suspensions

TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis of a biotin-containing triazene followed by reaction with single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) is described. But this method is particularly useful when a target molecule has functionality that will not tolerate diazotization conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Preparative Fluorous Mixture Synthesis of Diazonium-Functionalized Oligo(phenylene vinylene)s

TL;DR: The products were made to bear aryl diazonium functionalities that allow them to be used as surface grafting moieties in hybrid silicon/molecule assemblies and to be recovered and reused.
