Successful enterprise has been related to numerous characteristics including entrepreneurial orientation. The current study aims to examine the influence of individual entrepreneurial orientation and grit dimensions on entrepreneurial success. The potential mediating role of consistency of interest and perseverance of effort, on the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and success, was also explored. Survey data were collected in Tripoli, Libya from entrepreneurs during the current economic downturn and crisis. The data from the usable 147 responses was analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modelling. The statistical results revealed a significant relationship between the individual entrepreneurial orientation, consistency of interest, and perseverance of effort, with the dependent variable, entrepreneurial success. The dimensions of grit were also found to mediate the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and success. The cross-sectional nature of the study and the smaller sample size make the findings difficult to generalize. Verification of the significance of success predictors can unravel concerns about the low rate of established and nascent businesses despite the presence of opportunities and positive perception of entrepreneurship. The study of grit dimensions as a mediator between the individual entrepreneurial orientation and success is unprecedented.

This study explores the effect of social isolation (SI) on the psychological wellbeing (PWB) of employees due to the imposed distance education during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown Drawing on individual psychological resources to improve wellbeing, researchers examine emotional intelligence (EI) as a possible mediator that reduces the effect of social isolation In this quantitative study, questionnaires were administered to measure SI, EI, and PWB among academic and non-academic staff in Iraqi public universities during the height of the Covid-19 outbreak The results suggest that EI and SI were strong predictors of PWB While SI was negatively and significantly related to EI, the presence of emotional intelligence as a mediator reduced the negative effect of isolation on wellbeing Gender was not found to moderate the mediating effect of EI on the SI-PWB association These findings support the validity of incorporating EI interventions during pandemic outbreaks that produce distinct effects on the isolation and thus potentially result in improving the wellbeing of employees Although employees high on EI are viewed less socially isolated and high on wellbeing within literature there is a relative dearth of supporting research that has not examined these inter-relationships during a genuinely imposed lockdown such as the one during the Covid-19 pandemic which provided standardization as to the social isolation context understudied Another theoretical gap included the psychometric revision of the social isolation scale © 2021 by the authors;licensee Growing Science, Canada

Social isolation and psychological wellbeing: lessons from Covid-19

The purpose of this empirical research is to examine the interrelated influences among emotional intelligence, organizational culture, and transformational leadership. In particular, the current study investigated the effect of emotional intelligence as a predictor of transformational leadership. The potential moderating effects of organizational culture on the relationships between the dimensions of emotional intelligence and transformational leadership were also examined. Data was collected from a sample of 333 academic leaders in 18 public universities in peninsular Malaysia. Transformational leadership was measured by using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ-5x Short), emotional intelligence, using the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS), and organizational culture, using the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI). Structural equation modeling by means of partial least square bootstrapping resampling was used for hypotheses testing. Methodological improvements were made to overcome some of the challenges identified by past research that examined emotional intelligence and leadership. These concerns included common method variance, smaller sample sizes, relatively lower construct reliability, and researching sole organizations. The statistical results revealed a significantly positive relationship between transformational leadership and three of the independent variables, namely, self-emotion appraisal, others emotional appraisal, and use of emotion. The study of organizational culture as a moderator between the dimensions of emotional intelligence and transformational leadership was also unprecedented. Generally, organizational culture played an important role in moderating this relationship. However, the moderating effect of organizational culture as a whole construct, and clan and hierarchy type cultures were found significant only on the relationship between regulation of emotion and transformational leadership while adhocracy type culture negatively moderated the relationship between others emotional appraisal and transformational leadership. The results of this study contribute to the present pool of knowledge about the interrelationships of emotional intelligence, organizational culture and transformational leadership, showing that the power of leaders’ emotional intelligence on transformational leadership is expressed through a third moderating variable, organizational culture. Theoretically, the study is hopeful to further understandings of the predictive power of emotional intelligence dimensions on transformational leadership, as well as contribute insights as to the conditional effect of organizational culture on the relationship. The findings of the study will also help practitioners improve the selection and development of leaders.

The moderating role of organizational culture on the relationship between emotional intelligence and transformational leadership

This paper aims to examine the effect of financial bootstrapping strategies (FBS) and strategic improvisation (SI) on business performance (BP). The study enriches our understanding of the contributions of bootstrapping and improvisation strategies toward resource-constrained small businesses during real economic downturns and crises. The potential moderating effect of SI on the relationship between FBS and its dimensions and performance were also examined.,Using the convenience snowball sampling technique, data were collected from entrepreneurs in Tripoli, Libya. Structural equation modeling by means of partial least square bootstrapping resampling was used for the hypotheses testing of the 147 useable responses.,Statistically significant positive relationships were found in the direct relationships between bootstrapping and improvisation with performance. However, there was no significant association found between the delaying payment related bootstrapping and the owner-related bootstrapping with performance. The moderating effect of improvisation had a significant relationship between bootstrapping as an aggregate construct and its dimensions and performance.,Due to the cross-sectional nature of this study which used a small sample that was randomly selected, generalization to the entire population of business ventures should be made with caution.,The negative moderation effect of improvisation on FBS-BP association suggests that entrepreneurs need to be careful in balancing the two strategies so that efforts are no wasted.,While business performance has been studied in various organizations, its examination with financial bootstrapping strategies as a predictor and strategic improvisation as a moderator contribute nascent theoretical insights.
