A spatial coupling model to study dynamic performance of pantograph-catenary with vehicle-track excitation

The wind-induced vibration of the high-speed catenary and the dynamic behaviour of the pantograph–catenary under stochastic wind field are firstly analysed. The catenary model is established based on nonlinear cable and truss elements, which can fully describe the nonlinearity of each wire and the initial configuration. The model of the aerodynamic forces acting on the messenger/contact wire is deduced by considering the effect of the vertical and horizontal fluctuating winds. The vertical and horizontal fluctuating winds are simulated by employing the Davenport and Panofsky spectrums, respectively. The aerodynamic coefficients of the contact/messenger wire are calculated through computational fluid dynamics. Active control of contact force for high-speed railway pantograph-catenary based on multi-body pantograph model

The interaction between the catenary and pantograph is one of the most crucial factors that determine the train operation in high-speed railway. The bad state of catenary is able to directly influence the power supply safety of traction power system. In this paper, four aspects on the catenary research of high-speed railway are reviewed in detail, namely the solution methods for catenary equilibrium state, the dynamic modeling methods of catenary, non-contact detection methods of catenary, and the static and dynamic evaluation methods of catenary. In addition, their recent advances are described. For the low solution accuracy of the initial equilibrium state of catenary, the structure finding method with multi-objective constraint and nonlinear finite element procedure are introduced to solve the problem. For the catenary’s dynamic modeling, considering the influence of environmental wind on the catenary, environmental wind simulations and wind tunnel tests are used to obtain the aerodynamic coefficients and build the wind field along the catenary for analysis of its wind vibration characteristics. In order to improve the detection accuracy of non-contact detection for the catenary, the deep learning theory and real-time detection algorithms should be adopted in the future. In view of the lack of dynamic assessment method for the catenary, the modern spectrum evaluation, time–frequency analysis, big data technology and their combinations will be the important means for future catenary evaluation.

Understanding the dynamic interaction between the catenary and pantograph of a high-speed train is the one of the most important technical issues in the railway industry. This is because the catenary–pantograph system plays a crucial role in providing electric power to the railway vehicle for stable operation. Assessment of the Running Resistance of a High-speed Train Using a Coasting Test

The contribution of exterior devices such as bogie fairings and pantographs to running resistance was estimated on the basis of coasting tests at up to 350 km/h with the help of the Korean Next Generation High speed train (HEMU-430X) In order to assess the reduction of air resistance by nose car`s bogie fairing, coasting tests were conducted with a removable bogie fairing at various speed ranges And, the contribution of the pantograph to air resistance was also estimated with coasting tests that include the pantograph`s rising and descent modes The linear regression method was used to examine decelerations from time-velocity data and the equation of resistance to motion is proposed from the deceleration data From the aerodynamic term of the equation of resistance to motion, the contribution to air resistance by nose car`s bogie fairing and pantograph was estimated The results show that the air resistance was reduced by about 38% by the nose car`s bogie fairing And, the 39% increase of air resistance by the pantograph (open knee mode) has been found

A Study on the Contribution of Exterior Devices to Running Resistance in High-Speed Trains

1960년대 일본의 신간선이 개통 된 이래로 고속철도 시스템은 우리나라뿐만 아니라 전 세계적으로도 빠르게 성장을 지속하 고 있다. 최근의 고속열차 대부분은 케이블로 이루어진 전차선과 차량 지붕에 장착된 팬터그래프(집전장치)의 상호 접촉을 통 하여 전력공급을 받는 전기철도 차량이다. 이러한 전기철도 차량은 안정적인 집전성능을 유지할 수 있어야 안정적인 운영속도 유지할 수 있으며, 특히 시속 300km/h 이상의 고속주행에서는 일정한 기준의 집전성능을 만족하지 못하면 전차선의 손상이나 이선아크로 인한 시스템의 전기·기계적 손상을 야기할 수 있어 엄격한 관리가 필요한 특성이다[1]. 고속열차의 집전성능은 일반적으로 전차선과 팬터그래프 집전판 사이에 작용하는 동적 접촉력을 측정하여 평가되어진다. 따 라서 국내 및 국외에서는 접촉력을 평가하기 위하여 UIC 794-O [2], BS EN 50119 [3], BS EN 50367 [4] 등의 시험규격을 적 용하고 있다. 상기의 국제 규격을 통하여 평균접촉력 및 통계적 최대/최소 접촉력은 일정 범위를 만족하여야 한다. 특히 통계적 최대 접촉력은 일반적으로 전차선의 변형 및 마모와 관련되어 있으며, 통계적 최소접촉력은 이선아크로 인한 전차선 손상 및 차량 전장품의 손상을 야기할 수 있어 매우 중요하다. 한편 이러한 통계적 최대/최소 접촉력은 평균접촉력과 접촉력의 표준편 Abstract The contact force characteristic between the pantograph and the catenary wire represents the current collection quality of trains; it should be precisely controlled under international standard. Recently, a noise reduction cover has been installed around the pantograph of high speed trains. However, little study on the contact force by the pantograph cover has been conducted. In this study, the impact on the current collection performance of the pantograph cover was analyzed by dynamic contact force measurement using a next generation high speed train (HEMU-430X). As a result, it was confirmed that the attachment of a pantograph cover could lower the mean contact force by approximately 50N at 300km/h. In addition, the pure difference of the average contact force by the presence of pantograph cover, except for the static pressure, was measured and found to be up to 110N at 300km/h. It was also found that the standard deviation of the contact force of 3~5N could be changed by use of a pantograph cover.

Analysis of Effect of Pantograph Cover on the Current Collection Quality of High Speed Train using Real Train Experiment

The Electro-Mechanical Brake (EMB) is the next generation braking system for automobiles and railway vehicles. Current brake systems for high-speed trains generate a braking force using a pneumatic cylinder, but EMB systems produce that force through a combination of an electric motor and a gear. In this study, an EMB operation mechanism capable of generating a high braking force was proposed, and structural and vibration analyses of the gears and shafts, which are the core parts of the mechanisms, were performed. Dynamic structural analysis confirmed that the maximum stress in the analysis model was within the yield strength of the material. In addition, the design that maximizes the diameter of the motor shaft was found to be advantageous in strength, and large shear stress could be generated in the bolt fixing the gear and eccentric shaft. In addition, a test apparatus that can reproduce the mechanism of the analytical model was fabricated to measure the strain of the fixed bolt part, which is the most vulnerable part. The strain measurement results showed that the error between the analysis and measurement was within 10%, which could verify the accuracy of the analytical model.
