Journal ArticleDOI

Endocrine Control of Energy Metabolism in the Cow: Correlations of Hormones and Metabolites in High and Low Yielding Cows for Stages of Lactation

TL;DR: Associations of changes with sampling periods in milk yield or body weight with changes in hormones and metabolites, and changes in growth hormone were related positively to changes in nonesterified fatty acids and negatively to insulin and lactic acid.
Journal ArticleDOI

Endocrine control of energy metabolism in the cow: the effect on milk yield and levels of some blood constituents of injecting growth hormone and growth hormone fragments.

TL;DR: It was concluded that this role may be in increasing the supply of energy metabolites for milk synthesis, rather than a direct effect on the activity of the mammary gland, where GH is considered to play an important role.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of injecting or infusing low doses of bovine growth hormone on milk yield, milk composition and the quantity of hormone in the milk serum of cows

TL;DR: The effects of administering bovine growth hormone (bGH) on milk production in cattle were examined in two experiments as discussed by the authors, where three groups of four Friesian cows were injected daily with one of two doses of bGH (6 ng/kg and 30 ug/kg; 0·82 unit/mg) or with saline (control) throughout three successive 21-day periods in mid-lactation.
