Heat transfer—A review of 2005 literature

In this study, an analysis has been performed for heat and mass transfer with radiation effect of a steady laminar boundary-layer flow of a micropolar flow past a nonlinearly stretching sheet. Parameters n, K, k0, Pr, Ec, and Sc represent the dominance of the nonlinearly effect, material effect, radiation effect, heat and mass transfer effects which have presented in governing equations, respectively. The similar transformation, the finite-difference method and Runge–Kutta method have been used to analyze the present problem. The numerical solutions of the flow velocity distributions, temperature profiles, the wall unknown values of θ′(0) and ϕ′(0) for calculating the heat and mass transfer of the similar boundary-layer flow are carried out as functions of n, Ec, k0, Pr, Sc. The value of n, k0, Pr and Sc parameters are important factors in this study. It will produce greater heat transfer efficiency with a larger value of those parameters, but the viscous dissipation parameter Ec and material parameter K may reduce the heat transfer efficiency. On the other hand, for mass transfer, the value of Sc parameter is important factor in this study. It will produce greater heat transfer efficiency with a larger value of Sc.

Numerical Study for the Flow and Heat Transfer in a Thin Liquid Film Over an Unsteady Stretching Sheet with Variable Fluid Properties in the Presence of Thermal Radiation

The flow of a viscous fluid disturbed by an oscillating plate of arbitrary initial phase is studied in present note. The exact solutions of the velocity and the shear stress are solved using a Laplace transform method. The velocity is derived in terms of complementary error functions and the shear stress on the boundary is given in the form of Fresnel integrals. Since the steady-state solutions are well known, our discussions are focused on the transient solutions. The transient state will disappear faster for the wall stress than that for the velocity field. Comparing the results corresponding to different initial phases, the cosine case reaches to the steady state more rapidly than the sine case.

A Note on the Transient Solution of Stokes' Second Problem with Arbitrary Initial Phase

An analysis is performed to study the MHD free convection flow in a vertical rectangular duct for laminar and fully developed regime taking into consideration the effects of Ohmic heating and viscous dissipation. Numerical solutions are found using finite difference method of second-order accuracy. The effects of various physical parameters such as Hartmann number, aspect ratio, buoyancy parameter and circuit parameter are presented graphically. It is found that as Hartmann number, buoyancy parameter and aspect ratio increase, the upward and downward flow rates are increased for open circuit but decrease for short circuit.

Fully developed magneto convection flow in a vertical rectangular duct

An analysis of the Poiseuille-Couette flow of two immiscible fluids between inclined parallel plates is investigated. One of the fluids is assumed to be electrically conducting while the other fluid and channel walls are assumed to be electrically insulating. The viscous and Ohmic dissipation terms are taken into account in the energy equation. The coupled nonlinear equations are solved both analytically valid for small values of the product of Prandtl number and Eckert number (= e) and numerically valid for all e. Solutions for large e reveal a marked change on the flow and rate of heat transfer. The effects of various parameters such as Hartmann number, Grashof number, angle of inclination, ratios of viscosities, widths and thermal conductivities are presented and discussed in detail.
