Natural fibres: can they replace glass in fibre reinforced plastics?

TL;DR: In this paper, natural fibres (sisal, kenaf, hemp, jute and coir) reinforced polypropylene composites were processed by compression molding using a film stacking method.

Natural fibres: Can they replace glass in fibre reinforced plastics ?

TL;DR: In this article, natural fibres (sisal, kenaf, hemp, jute and coir) reinforced polypropylene composites were processed by compression molding using a film stacking method.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fibre hybridisation in polymer composites: a review

TL;DR: In this paper, a review aims to explain basic mechanisms of these hybrid effects and describes the state-of-the-art models to predict them, and an overview of the tensile, flexural, impact and fatigue properties of hybrid composites is presented to aid in optimal design of hybrid composite materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Voids in fiber-reinforced polymer composites: A review on their formation, characteristics, and effects on mechanical performance:

TL;DR: In this article, the most studied type of manufacturing defects, voids, form very often in processing of fiber-reinforced composites and have a considerable influence on physical and thermomechanical properties.
Journal ArticleDOI

Morphological aspects and mechanical properties of single bamboo fibers and flexural characterization of bamboo/epoxy composites

TL;DR: In this article, a novel mechanical extraction process was developed to obtain long bamboo fibers to be used as reinforcement in structural composites, and a single-fiber tensile test at four different span lengths for four span lengths was performed.
