Synthesis antimicrobial and antioxidant studies of new oximes of steroidal chalcones.

A series of new pyrazoline compounds bearing a pyridyl moiety (4a–i) were synthesized by condensing appropriate chalcones with hydrazine hydrate and tested for antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. According to in vitro antimicrobial activity against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Aspergillus niger and Penicillium chrysogenum and antioxidant activity by DPPH method, the compounds 4a, 4d, 4i and 4e, 4f, 4h showed maximum antimicrobial and antioxidant activities, respectively. Physiochemical properties and Lipinski’s ‘Rule of Five’ analysis predicted higher intrinsic quality of the synthesized compounds and revealed that these compounds have good bioavailability and druglikeness properties.

Nanotechnology has emerged as an important field of modern scientific research due to its diverse range of applications in the area of electronics, material sciences, biomedical engineering, and medicines at nano levels such as healthcare, cosmetics, food and feed, environmental health, optics, biomedical sciences, chemical industries, drug-gene delivery, energy science, optoelectronics, catalysis, reprography, single electron transistors, light emitters, nonlinear optical devices, and photoelectrochemical applications and other applications. Due to these immense applications of nanotechnology in biomedical science, it has became possible to design the pharmaceuticals in such a way that they could directly treat diseased cells like cancer and make microscopic repairs in hard-to-operate-on areas of the body. The nanomachines have been designed to clean up toxins or oil spills, recycle all garbage, eliminate landfills, etc. The chapter summarizes the present and future applications of nanotechnology for human welfare but needs further study in catalysis, optical devices, sensor technology, cancer treatment, and drug delivery systems. Nanotechnology, Metal Nanoparticles, and Biomedical Applications of Nanotechnology

An efficient and simple synthesis of 17-chalconyl derivatives of pregnenolone and their antibacterial and antifungal evaluation is reported. The scheme involves the transformation of the starting pregnenolone to the corresponding Chalcone derivatives by the well-known Claisen-Schmidt reaction. Determination of Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) is reported on these newly synthesized Chalcone derivatives of pregnenolone. The prediction of molecular properties is also discussed. Compounds showing lower MIC values also followed Lipinski’s rule of 5. The results showed that the activity of the tested agents against each microbe varies due to structural differences between the microorganisms.
