TL;DR: It is argued that the pattern of the ERPs elicited by critical nouns in sentences with unembedded bare numerals depends on the participant’s choice of the reading of the numeral, which falsifies the exactly-theory of numerals and speaks in favor of the ambiguity account.

TL;DR: This paper investigated a novel hypothesis that symbolic expressions of number (such as “11”) explicitly provide exactly readings unlike verbal (oral and written) ones, which engender at least readings.
