Journal ArticleDOI
Modulation of long-range neural synchrony reflects temporal limitations of visual attention in humans.
Joachim Gross,Frank Schmitz,Irmtraud Schnitzler,Klaus Kessler,Kimron L. Shapiro,Bernhard Hommel,Alfons Schnitzler +6 more
TL;DR: This work hypothesized that the network communicates by means of neural phase synchronization, and used magnetoencephalography to study transient long-range interarea phase coupling in a well studied attentionally taxing dual-target task (attentional blink).
Journal ArticleDOI
Anticipatory control of long‐range phase synchronization
Joachim Gross,Frank Schmitz,Irmtraud Schnitzler,Klaus Kessler,Kimron L. Shapiro,Bernhard Hommel,Alfons Schnitzler +6 more
TL;DR: Using magnetoencephalography (MEG), this work reveals a striking increase in the modulation of phase synchronization associated with an increased probability of target occurrence, consistent with the hypothesis that long‐range phase synchronization plays a critical functional role in humans' ability to effectively employ predictive heuristics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Image-to-sound conversion: experience-induced plasticity in auditory cortex of blindfolded adults.
TL;DR: Activity at 100 ms after presentation of “natural sounds”, but not other auditory stimuli, showed a significant enhancement over time only in blindfolded subjects using the substitution system, indicating that the combination of visual deprivation and practice facilitated intra-modal plasticity.
