Isomerization reactions of tetracyanodiaquocobaltate(III)

The thermal and the photochemical reactions of Co(CN)5H2O2- with azide, iodide, hydroazoic acid and hydrocyanic acid are investigated. Data on the photochemical aquation of Co(CN)3−6 as a function of the chemical properties of the medium are also reported. On the basis of these kinetic data a reaction mechanism is proposed which takes into account the important role of the solvent cage surrounding the reacting complex.

Mechanisms of substitution reactions of pentacyanoaquocobaltate (III)

A technique is described to investigate the formation of chemi-ions in flash induced explosions. Data are presented on the ion formation rate and the ion yield in H2/O2/N2/NO2 mixtures at 60 torr, to which traces of C2H6 were added.



The importance of the wavelength of the actinic light for the chemi- ionization processes is established by using quartz or pyrex vessels. Using a quartz vessel chemi-ionization was also observed without any C2H6 present. Most probably this is due to the presence of O(1D).
