Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnosis of intestinal and disseminated microsporidial infections in patients with HIV by a new rapid fluorescence technique.
T. van Gool,F. Snijders,Peter Reiss,J. K. M. Eeftinck Schattenkerk,M.A. van den Bergh Weerman,Joep F. Bartelsman,J J Bruins,Elizabeth U. Canning,Jacob Dankert +8 more
TL;DR: The Uvitex 2B fluorescence method combines speed, sensitivity, and specificity for the diagnosis and treatment evaluation of intestinal and disseminated microsporidiosis in HIV seropositive patients with diarrhoea.
Journal ArticleDOI
Insulin sensitivity and insulin clearance in human immunodeficiency virus-infected men.
TL;DR: The results indicate that HIV-infected men have increased rates of insulin clearance and increased sensitivity of peripheral tissues to insulin, which makes HIV infection unique with regard to glucose and insulin metabolism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increased resting energy expenditure in human immunodeficiency virus-infected men
M.J.T. Hommes,Johannes A. Romijn,Mieke H. Godfried,J. K. M. Eeftinck Schattenkerk,W.A. Buurman,Erik Endert,H. P. Sauerwein +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, indirect calorimetry was performed in 18 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected men free of clinically active opportunistic infections for at least two months.
Journal ArticleDOI
Conversion Rate towards a Syncytium-Inducing (SI) Phenotype during Different Stages of Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Infection and Prognostic Value of SI Phenotype for Survival after AIDS Diagnosis
M. Koot,R. Van Leeuwen,R. E. Y. De Goede,I. P. M. Keet,S. A. Danner,J. K. M. Eeftinck Schattenkerk,Peter Reiss,M. Tersmette,J. M. A. Lange,Hanneke Schuitemaker +9 more
TL;DR: The presence of syncytium-inducing (SI) human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) variants is predictive for accelerated progression to AIDS as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Itraconazole compared with amphotericin B plus flucytosine in AIDS patients with cryptococcal meningitis.
J. de Gans,Peter Portegies,G. Tiessens,J. K. M. Eeftinck Schattenkerk,C. J. Van Boxtel,R J van Ketel,J. Stam +6 more
TL;DR: Itraconazole is less effective compared with amphotericin B plus flucytosine in achieving a complete response in initial therapy in AIDS patients with cryptococcal meningitis.
