Cultural and socio-economic impacts of Mediterranean marine protected areas
Fabio Badalamenti,Angel Ramos,Eleni Voultsiadou,J. L. Sánchez Lizaso,Giovanni D’Anna,Carlo Pipitone,J. Mas,J.A. Ruiz Fernandez,David Whitmarsh,Silvano Riggio +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the existing data on MPAs in Spain, France, Italy, and Greece and found that a general increase in tourist activities in Mediterranean MPAs is evident, as are increases in the abundances of larger fish species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Density dependence in marine protected populations: a review
J. L. Sánchez Lizaso,Raquel Goñi,O. Reñones,J.A. García Charton,René Galzin,J.T. Bayle,P. Sánchez Jerez,A. Pérez Ruzafa,Angel Ramos +8 more
TL;DR: This review synthesizes the existing information on resource limitation in marine ecosystems, density-dependent changes in life-history traits of exploited populations and evidence for biomass export from MPAs to discuss the implications of this process for the use of MPAs as fisheries management tools.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial and temporal changes in infaunal communities inhabiting soft-bottoms affected by brine discharge
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of brine discharge over soft bottom communities along the Alicante coast over a two year period and observed a substitution of a community characterized by the presence of Polychaeta, Crustacea and Mollusca for another dominated by nematodes in the stations closer to the discharge.

Status of marine protected areas in Egypt
TL;DR: The present status of MPA networks in Egypt showed a set of important results manifested in some strengths and weaknesses, and some recommendations are proposed to improve the current situation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Sewage Discharge in Spisula subtruncata (da Costa 1778) Populations
TL;DR: In this article, Van Veen grab samples were obtained for the study of the bivalve population and to characterize the sediment in five locations affected by sewage discharge along the Castellon coast (northwest Mediterranean Sea).
