Journal ArticleDOI
Rare species support vulnerable functions in high-diversity ecosystems
David Mouillot,David Mouillot,David R. Bellwood,Christopher Baraloto,Christopher Baraloto,Jérôme Chave,René Galzin,Mireille Harmelin-Vivien,Michel Kulbicki,Sébastien Lavergne,Sandra Lavorel,Nicolas Mouquet,C. E. Timothy Paine,Julien Renaud,Wilfried Thuiller +14 more
TL;DR: The most unusual, and thus irreplaceable, functions performed by species in three different species-rich ecosystems are fulfilled by only the rare species in these ecosystems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relating behavior to habitat: solutions to thefourth-corner problem
TL;DR: The fourth-corner method offers a way of analyzing the relationships between the supplementary variables associated with the rows and columns of a binary data table, and is shown to be applicable to a wide class of ecological problems.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this article, a review of current functioning and responses of Mediterranean marine biogeochemical cycles and ecosystems with respect to key natural and anthropogenic drivers and to consider the ecosystems' responses to likely changes in physical, chemical and socio-economical forcings induced by global change and by growing anthropogenic pressure at the regional scale.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relationships between coral reef substrata and fish
TL;DR: The analysis of the partitioning based on the coral variables suggests that there are significant relationships between benthic and fish assemblages.
Journal ArticleDOI
Climate warming, marine protected areas and the ocean-scale integrity of coral reef ecosystems.
Nicholas A. J. Graham,Tim R. McClanahan,M. Aaron MacNeil,M. Aaron MacNeil,Shaun K. Wilson,Shaun K. Wilson,Nicholas Polunin,Simon Jennings,Simon Jennings,Pascale Chabanet,Pascale Chabanet,Susan Clark,Mark Spalding,Yves Letourneur,Lionel Bigot,René Galzin,Marcus C. Öhman,Kajsa C. Garpe,Alasdair J. Edwards,Charles Sheppard +19 more
TL;DR: Using Bayesian meta-analysis, it is shown that changes in the size structure, diversity and trophic composition of the reef fish community have followed coral declines, suggesting a need for future conservation and management efforts to identify and protect regional refugia.
