Journal ArticleDOI
Bone mineral density and quantitative ultrasound parameters in patients with Klinefelter's syndrome after long-term testosterone substitution
TL;DR: Despite long-term testosterone replacement therapy, a considerable percentage of patients with KS had a BMD T-score <−1 or even ≤−2.5, based on different North American reference databases, and this percentage was even higher for BMAD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Calcaneal ultrasound imaging in healthy children and adolescents: relation of the ultrasound parameters BUA and SOS to age, body weight, height, foot dimensions and pubertal stage.
TL;DR: Investigation of quantitative ultrasound parameters broadband ultrasound attenuation (BUA) and speed of sound (SOS) measured in the posterior part of the calcaneus at the region of interest (ROI) with the lowest attenuation in 491 healthy Caucasian children and adolescents found BUA increased significantly with age in both sexes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trends in oral anti-osteoporosis drug prescription in the United Kingdom between 1990 and 2012: Variation by age, sex, geographic location and ethnicity
R. Y. van der Velde,Caroline E. Wyers,E. Teesselink,Piet Geusens,Piet Geusens,J. van den Bergh,J. van den Bergh,F. de Vries,Cyrus Cooper,Cyrus Cooper,Cyrus Cooper,Nicholas C. Harvey,Nicholas C. Harvey,T P van Staa,T P van Staa +14 more
TL;DR: Overall AOD prescription incidence showed a strong increase from 1990 to 2006, followed by a plateau in both sexes and a decrease amongst women in the last three years, suggesting that the well-documented care gap in osteoporosis treatment persists.
Journal ArticleDOI
Speed of sound reflects Young’s modulus as assessed by microstructural finite element analysis
J. van den Bergh,G.H. van Lenthe,Ad R. M. M. Hermus,F.H.M. Corstens,A.G.H. Smals,Rik Huiskes +5 more
TL;DR: The ability of the SOS technique to assess the architectural mechanical quality of trabecular bone to predict Young's modulus, as assessed by microstructural finite element analysis from microcomputed tomography reconstructions, is illustrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Secular trends in fracture incidence in the UK between 1990 and 2012.
R. Y. van der Velde,Caroline E. Wyers,Elizabeth M Curtis,Piet Geusens,Piet Geusens,J. van den Bergh,J. van den Bergh,F. de Vries,C Cooper,C Cooper,C Cooper,T P van Staa,T P van Staa,Nicholas C. Harvey,Nicholas C. Harvey +14 more
TL;DR: Overall sex-specific fracture incidence in the UK population 50 years or over appears to have remained stable over the last two decades, but there have been noticeable changes in rates of individual fracture types.
