Vehicular Ad hoc Networks have attracted the interest of the scientific community, since many issues remain open, especially in the research area of routing techniques. In this work we propose a new position-based routing algorithm called Junction-Based Routing. The algorithm makes use of selective greedy forwarding up to the node that is located at a junction and is closer to the destination. If a local optimum is reached, a recovery strategy is applied, the key point of which is our proposed minimum angle method. We evaluate the performance of our routing protocol in real city topology. The simulated scenarios use obstacle modelling and several different Physical layer settings. Simulation results show that our proposal achieves superior performance compared to the well-known Greedy Perimeter Coordinator Routing algorithm.

Junction-Based Geographic Routing Algorithm for Vehicular Ad hoc Networks

A multi-criteria network-aware service composition algorithm in wireless environments

In the context of world economies transitioning to services, telecommunications services are the primary means of communication between different economic entities and are therefore essential. The focus on the end consumer, the convergence with the Internet, the separation between the software and the hardware implementing a service, and the telecommunications market deregulation have led to a revolution and a new era in the telecommunications industry. To meet these challenges, former national telecommunications providers have to reduce the construction time, from months to days, while affecting non-negatively other parameters (e.g., cost, quality of service, quality of experience) of new telecommunications services. To tackle this broad theme, we propose a telecommunications service construction process, the software tools that are to be used in this process and a tool building process to build them. The telecommunications service construction process reflects current practices in the telecommunications industry. As such, it should be (easily) accepted by practitioners. The software tools (i.e., Domain Specific Modeling Languages designed as profiles of an Enterprise Architecture Modeling Language, graphical editors, code generators, Off the Shelf network simulators, a collaboration Design Rationale Domain Specific Modeling Language) help telecommunications providers face the challenges. The tool building process relies on models and provides a high automation degree, hence software tools can be build more rapidly. We illustrate the telecommunications service construction process and the tools using a multimedia conferencing service. Our proposals contribute to reducing the construction time of new telecommunications services, while providing the possibility of improved quality of service and increased involvement of the consumer. Faster provisioning of new telecommunications services, that better answer the consumers? needs, will increase the rate of development of new economic services in general, and will ultimately have a positive impact on world economic development.

Collaborative Construction of Telecommunications Services. An Enterprise Architecture and Model Driven Engineering Method

This paper presents adaptive management of the multi-path and multi-technology technology wireless communications solutions. Such approach represents response on transport processes management requirements to provide complex seamless communication services between vehicle and infrastructure as well as vehicle and vehicle in the selection of different service quality classes. ISO TC204, WG16.1 "Communications Air-interface for Long and Medium range" (CALM) represent relevant data routing/switching with vertical RM OSI compatible communications architecture, however, with horizontal hierarchical management structure. Introduced decision processes based on Bayes statistics are alternative solution to the Policy-Based Management (PBM) traditionally and widely applied within the IP based networks. Adaptive classification algorithm processes combination of filtered measured data with relevant deterministic parameters like the services economy, company policy etc. Self-training process applies parameters vectors time line extended by assignment to the best possible class/path with aim to identify/precise setting of the appropriate internal management system parameters.

Plenary lecture 1: adaptive approach to management of the multi-path wireless solutions

Intelligent Transport Services (ITS) applications require availability of the wireless seamless secure communications solutions with selectable services quality and wide-area coverage. There are available both public as well as private wireless data services, however, dominantly in case of public services no guaranteed data service quality is offered. Principal improvement of the service quality can be reached by dynamical selection of the best possible alternative from the available portfolio of relevant services. Efficient decision processes must be implemented in the appropriate flexible seamless routing/switching structures. Generally recommended solution has been described in series of documents generated by ISO/CEN known as CALM family of standards. In accordance to our understanding CALM architecture represents very complex attitude, however, it is demanding solution for less ambitious implementations. On the other hand CALM decision processes are limited to approach based on the Policy-based Management (PBM) principles with limited functionality and adaptability. Authors present L3 alternative solution with adaptive classifications processes applied instead of PBM ones. Such approach can be efficiently implemented specifically if there is available deep understanding of applied technologies. Requirements on the representative system performance indicators and their tolerance range should be so carefully identified. Paper includes results of authors’ laboratory study of three most widely spread data services which can be understood as basis for the “CALM ideas” based system implementations.

Adaptive Multi-path Telecommunications Solutions for ITS

This article advocates the shift of the adaptive service engineering attention from the external service execution environment to the internal service logic itself. This article presents a novel adaptive service creation solution called POETRY that takes advantages of two promising techniques: PBM (Policy-based Management) and MDA (Model-driven Architecture). In particular, the POETRY service creation framework has investigated the thought of utilizing a policy-based management method to describe and control the internal logic of adaptive services and the method of utilizing MDA models to describe the adaptive service information model. The design details and operations of POETRY are presented and showcased via a typical adaptive service scenario.
