Demand bactericide for disinfecting water and process of preparation

TL;DR: A demand bactericide for disinfecting water comprises a strong base anion exchange resin containing a bactericidally effective amount of triiodide for killing bacteria in water while being essentially free of water-elutable oxidizing iodine.
Journal ArticleDOI

New water disinfectant: an insoluble quaternary ammonium resin-triiodide combination that releases bactericide on demand.

TL;DR: Strongly basic anion-exchange resins form stable, water-insoluble combinations with triiodide ions that have remarkable antibacterial properties and the irreversible nature of the antibacterial action was revealed when attempts to wash the damaged cells did not restore viability.

Process of preparing homogeneous resin-polyiodide disinfectants

TL;DR: Demand-type disinfectants are prepared from strong base anion exchange resin beads and elemental iodine as discussed by the authors, where the resin is in the iodide form, and the iodine is applied with a water carrier which is recycled in contact with the resin and the stoichiometric amount of iodine to form the desired polyiodide.
