Effect of joint contamination on the quality of butt-fused high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe joints
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method to evaluate pipe joint quality by using Butt Fusion for high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe jointing on job sites.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural performance of sliplined watermain
Jack Q. Zhao,Lyne Daigle +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a practical method for the determination of load sharing and circumferential stresses in a sliplined pressure pipe is presented, which is based on a pressurized watermain.
Journal ArticleDOI
The influence of temperature on earth pressure cell readings
Lyne Daigle,Jack Q. Zhao +1 more
TL;DR: Vibrating-wire earth pressure cells are often used to measure soil pressure in fills and embankments or contact pressure between soil and buried structures as discussed by the authors, but they are not suitable for outdoor applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thermal performance of trench backfills used for frost protection of water service lines
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the thermal performance of different configurations of trenches using various trench geometries and backfill and insulation materials, and show that the use of sandwich insulation is ineffective, and that latent heat of backfill is low.
Journal ArticleDOI
Innovative approach to testing the quality of fusion joints
TL;DR: In this paper, the exterior beads formed during a butt fusion process were used for non-destructive testing of the quality of butt-fused HDPE pipe joints, and a dimensionless quality parameter that is based on tensile energy to break (TEB) values obtained from tensile testing of both the bead and joint specimens.
