Journal ArticleDOI

The effects of ovariectomy and 17β-estradiol on cortical bone histomorphometry in growing rats

TL;DR: The results of these short‐term studies indicate that ovariectomy in growing rats leads to increases in both bone formation and resorption, and that these increases are reversed by treatment with 17β‐estradiol.
Journal ArticleDOI

Osteoinduction by implants of demineralized allogeneic bone matrix is diminished in vitamin D-deficient rats.

TL;DR: Vitamin D deficiency does not alter either the timing or the sequence of histologic events associated with osteoinduction but dramatically reduces the magnitude of the response, and vitamin D deficiency not only impairs mineralization but also reduces bone formation and resorption.
