Journal ArticleDOI

Mullite grown from fired andalusite grains: the role of impurities and of the high temperature liquid phase on the kinetics of mullitization and consequences on thermal shocks resistance

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the influence of impurities on the kinetics of mullitization and microstructure of fired andalusite grains and showed that the presence of impurity (mainly iron and alkalis) increases the amount of liquid phase and decreases the liquid viscosity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thermodynamic equilibrium calculations of the volatilization and condensation of inorganics during wood gasification

TL;DR: In this article, a dual approach based on theoretical assessment and experimental validation is presented to evaluate the release of inorganic species in the syngas, depending on the gasification process, and then assess the condensation behaviour (temperature and speciation) of the condensable gases, which are responsible for corrosion of refractory lining and metallic structures of the reactors, and fouling of pipes, among others.
Journal ArticleDOI

The development of a thermodynamic model for Al2O3-MgO refractory castable corrosion by secondary metallurgy steel ladle slags

TL;DR: In this article, the authors predict the thermochemical attack of a slag on alumina magnesia refractory using Factsage® thermodynamic modeling, and evaluate the reliability of the thermodynamic results.
Journal ArticleDOI

A review: influence of refractories on steel quality

TL;DR: In this article, a good knowledge of the metal-slag-refractory products interactions is necessary in order to have a better control of elaboration procedures, and all the developments that will limit the contribution of refractory product in clogging phenomena, carbon pick up and atmospheric re-oxidation, in conjunction with efforts of the metallurgists to produce clean steels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) slag cooling: Laboratory characteristics and prediction calculations

TL;DR: In this article, the results of thermodynamic calculations coupled with cooling laboratory experiments and mineralogical characterisation are presented to follow slag crystallization with time and temperature from 1600 °C to ambient temperature using standard tools but also in-situ methods.
