Application of the topographic position index to heterogeneous landscapes
Jeroen De Reu,Jean Bourgeois,Machteld Bats,Ann Zwertvaegher,Vanessa Gelorini,Philippe De Smedt,Wei Chu,Marc Antrop,Philippe De Maeyer,Peter Finke,Marc Van Meirvenne,Jacques Verniers,Philippe Crombé +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors applied TPI to a geoarchaeological research project in northwestern Belgium but their use led to erroneous landform classifications in this heterogeneous landscape, and they found that deviation from mean elevation (DEV) was a better method for landform classification than TPI.
Journal ArticleDOI
Origin and Radiation of the Earliest Vascular Land Plants
Philippe Steemans,Alain Le Hérissé,John Melvin,Merrell A. Miller,Florentin Paris,Jacques Verniers,Charles H. Wellman +6 more
TL;DR: A diverse trilete spore occurrence from the Late Ordovician is obtained that suggests that vascular plants originated and diversified earlier than previously hypothesized, in Gondwana, before migrating elsewhere and secondarily diversifying.
Journal ArticleDOI
Palaeozoic amalgamation of Central Europe: an introduction and synthesis of new results from recent geological and geophysical investigations
TL;DR: In this article, a 3D reassessment of the relationships between the principal crustal blocks abutting Baltica along the Trans-European Suture Zone (TESZ) is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
A global Chitinozoa biozonation for the Silurian
TL;DR: A global Chitinozoan biozonation for the Silurian Period is proposed in this article, where each biozone is an interval range defined by the first occurrence of an index species, selected from well-defined species with a relatively short biostratigraphic range.

Palaeozoic Amalgamation of Central Europe
TL;DR: Palaeozoic Amalgamation of Central Europe as mentioned in this paper summarizes recent research designed to clarify the timing, geometry and processes by which discrete terranes of central Europe became amalgamated during the Palaeo-ozoic Era.
