A super-peer is a node in a peer-to-peer network that operates both as a server to a set of clients, and as an equal in a network of super-peers. Super-peer networks strike a balance between the efficiency of centralized search, and the autonomy, load balancing and robustness to attacks provided by distributed search. Furthermore, they take advantage of the heterogeneity of capabilities (e.g., bandwidth, processing power) across peers, which recent studies have shown to be enormous. Hence, new and old P2P systems like KaZaA and Gnutella are adopting super-peers in their design. Despite their growing popularity, the behavior of super-peer networks is not well understood. For example, what are the potential drawbacks of super-peer networks? How can super-peers be made more reliable? How many clients should a super-peer take on to maximize efficiency? we examine super-peer networks in detail, gaming an understanding of their fundamental characteristics and performance tradeoffs. We also present practical guidelines and a general procedure for the design of an efficient super-peer network.

Designing an Super-Peer Network

A method for controlling authorization of service resources includes: by a Proxy Call Session Control Function (P-CSCF) entity, receiving a message that carries a list of resources allowed to be used from an SCF entity; and obtaining the list of resources allowed to be used from the message, and controlling authorization of resources requested by a User Equipment (UE) according to the list of resources allowed to be used. A system and device for controlling authorization of service resources are also disclosed. With the present invention, the services accessible to the user are authorized at a single attempt. Therefore, the service switching speed is increased without any impact on the flexibility of the user in selecting the list of accessible services; and the service availability and the user experience are enhanced significantly.

Method and system for controlling authorization of service resources

The development of specifications for next generation networks has introduced a new network paradigm that has features and capabilities to ensure the provisioning of new value-added multimedia services over the broadband access technologies that are currently being deployed in the market. In this respect, the TISPAN group from ETSI is working in the specification of a next generation network, mainly based on IMS as the service signalling architecture. Nevertheless, the first release of the TISPAN NGN does not consider the QoS provisioning mechanisms in the end user environment. QoS support will necessarily require to extend the QoS scope to the client premises, in order to provide a real end-to-end QoS. In this scenario, the figure of a residential gateway in the user network plays a crucial role. In this paper, an architecture is presented to allow the automatic configuration of the QoS parameters in a residential gateway directly connected to a TISPAN compliant next generation network. This architecture should support the processing of the SIP signalling flows exchanged between the end user environment and the Core IMS in the NGN, deriving relevant information from the SDP payloads and accordingly configuring the QoS parameters in the user network environment

Integration of a QoS Aware End User Network within the TISPAN NGN Solutions

The fifth generation (5G) of mobile networks will have to accommodate different types of use cases, each of them with different and stringent requirements and key performance indicators (KPIs). To support this, apart from novel technologies such as network slicing or artificial intelligence, 5G will require a flexible and efficient monitoring system. The collected metrics serve to optimize the performance of the network, and to confirm the achievement of the KPIs. Furthermore, in the envisioned multi-site, multi-stakeholder scenarios, having a common monitoring system is even more critical for an efficient optimization and service provisioning. In this paper, we present a Monitoring architecture for the distribution and consumption of metrics and KPIs for 5G multi-site platforms, where different verticals from different stakeholders are implemented over a shared infrastructure. We also assess the performance of the implemented publish-subscribe paradigm, to confirm that it suits the requirements of these scenarios, and discuss how the architecture could be mapped to other 5G scenarios.

A Monitoring Framework for Multi-Site 5G Platforms

To date, broadcasting traffic data represents a low percentage of the total traffic in the Internet when compared to other kinds of information. This may be caused by difficulties with multicast transmissions (i.e filtering by ISPs), low bandwidth rates in the last mile access, quality of service (QoS) and the use of Network Address Translation (NAT) boxes in SME's and home offices (SOHOs). Research efforts in Next Generation Networks (NGN) are under way to create networks with true triple-play capabilities to overcome these problems. Several standardisation bodies like ITU-T and ETSI have working groups aimed at developing a general NGN architecture able to transport any type of traffic with an associated QoS. There are several results available (for example, ETSI TISPAN has published its Release 1) but there is still on-going work on different subjects, such as broadcasting transport in NGNs, where ETSI TISPAN has approved the study of IPTV in NGN as a high priority issue. This article focuses on the problems and solutions of a flexible, easily upgradeable broadcast enabled RGW (Residential Gateway) designed to work in an NGN scenario where multicast traffic, NAT boxes and QoS must be taken into consideration.

H-P2PSIP: Interconnection of P2PSIP domains for global multimedia services based on a hierarchical DHT overlay network

The TISPAN workgroup inside ETSI is currently working on accommodating the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) architecture, which has been created for the mobile world, to the fixed scenario where there is a new important element to be taken into account: the Residential Gateway (RGW). This element is typically considered as a customer device where providers do not usually have anything to configure. However, in order to achieve real end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) this cannot be true anymore.

This paper focuses on the way that a RGW is capable of configuring itself (an interface with the providers is also available), regarding Quality of Service parameters, into a Next Generation Network (NGN) scenario. The proposed RGW architecture is also flexible enough so as to adapt the QoS management mechanism to different possible scenarios, e.g. configured by the provider, by the customer or even autoconfigured by the RGW itself. A specific scenario, where a RGW is deployed in the TISPAN NGN architecture, will be explained and validated to proof the concept of the RGW architecture.

Adaptive quality of service management for next generation residential gateways

This paper describes a complete demo scenario where a Triple Play configuration (video, audio and data) with quality of service will be shown. This scenario could be considered as the aim of the Next Generation Networks (NGN) where a unified network is used to transport all possible kind of traffic towards a broadband Ethernet access multi-provider network. Although a NGN is a glue of different network parts, we focus this demo in the customer premises, more precisely in the Residential Gateway (RGW) that is the interface between the end user and the access network.
