Journal ArticleDOI

Adrenal androgen hyperresponsiveness to adrenocorticotropin in women with acne and/or hirsutism: adrenal enzyme defects and exaggerated adrenarche.

TL;DR: It is concluded that an adrenal contribution is found in about half of hyperandrogenemic women with acne and/or hirsutism, which resembles an exaggeration of adrenarche, and may provide an explanation for the clinical observation of exacerbations of acne with stress.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adrenarche: Changing Adrenal Response to Adrenocorticotropin

TL;DR: Overnight dexamethasone suppression led to reduction of most steroids in most groups, and the hypothesis that adrenarche results from an altered biosynthetic response to ACTH was tested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multiple androgenic abnormalities, including elevated free testosterone, in hyperprolactinemic women.

TL;DR: About 40% of HYPRL have an androgenic abnormality, and the most characteristic abnormality is an elevated free testosterone level (abnormal in 43%).
Journal ArticleDOI

Dexamethasone preparation does not alter corticoid and androgen responses to adrenocorticotropin.

TL;DR: In the luteal phase, although the plasma 17-hydroxyprogesterone level at 30 min was higher, a response to ACTH was not consistently found, in contrast to the consistent 52 +/- 15 ng/dl response in the follicular phase.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reduction of the potency of luteinizing hormone by estrogen.

TL;DR: The data indicate that estrogen produces qualitative and quantitative changes in serum LH in girls with gonadal dysgenesis, including breast development and menses within the 1st 6 months of estrogen therapy.
